Claims.
This invention relates to a toilet kit and the present application comprises a division of my application, Serial No. 552,364, filed September 1, 1944.
An object of the present invention is the pro vision of a toilet kit which is compact in construction and which includes the provision of a razor blade sharpening device that is incorporated in the kit as a unitary part of the construction thereof. In this connection the invention includes a housing which is capable of being formed from moldable material and which is adapted to be used either as a carrying kit or as a structure adapted for attachment to a wall for home use.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the present invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of the device; Fig. 3 is a section taken on a plane indicated by the line 33 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a section taken on a plane indicated by the line 4-4 in Fig. 3.
The present invention is shown in connection with a combined toilet kit and dispensing unit, including a razor blade sharpening device, an of which is housed in a unitary container in which may be made of moldable material, such as a thermo-setting plastic known in the trade as bakelite. The housing has compartments II and 12 therein which are adapted to hold tubes of paste and each compartment is provided with a pressure plate l3 adapted to be forced against the tube by operation of a thumb screw l5, but the details of such construction are not material in this application as they are fully illustrated, described and claimed in the parent application Serial N 0. 552,364.
The present application is specifically concerned with the razor blade sharpening device, and this includes a blade carrier 20 which is mounted for reciprocation within a recess within the body and which is guided in such movement by a block 2 I. The block is held in place by suitable set screws 22which extend inwardly to engage the sides of the block, and set screws 23 which extend upwardly to engage the bottom of the block and hold it in rigid position with reference to the housing. The blade carrier may be reciprocated manually by means of a handle 25, the inner end of which is rigidly fastened in any a r convenient way to the carrier and the outer end of which is provided with a knurled head 26. A curved hone 30 forms one wall of the recess 15 and is anchored in the body in spaced relationship to the carrier but in sufiiciently close proximity thereto that the blade to be honed is flexed 2 when held by the carrier and reciprocated against the hone.
To use the device the carrier is withdrawn from the recess, a blade 40 is inserted thereon and centered with respect thereto by posts 3! which fit the customary openings in the blade. Then the carrier, together with the blade is pushed into the recess. Such inward motion flexes the blade against the hone, whereby manual reciprocation of the carrier sharpens one side of the blade. The carrier is then withdrawn and the blade is reversed and sharpened on the other side in the same manner.
An advantage of the present invention is the fact that the razor blade sharpener is conveniently held in position in the unit, and is readily accessible for use whenever desired, The construction utilized is well adapted for manufacture in connection with a molded casing and the resulting unit is compact, and is capable of being readily handled either for travel purposes or for use as a wall fixture.
I claim:
1. A toilet kit comprising a housing having a recess, a curved razor blade hone in said recess, a blade-carrier extending longitudinally of the hone opposite the mid-portion thereof and spaced therefrom, said carrier having means thereon for centering a razor blade and holding it in position so that the blade will properly press against the hone, a guide along which the carrier may move, means for adjusting the position of the guide toward the hone, and a handle carried by the blade-carrier and projecting outside the housing by means of which the carrier may be reciprocated along the guide while in engagement with the hone.
2. A toilet kit comprising a body portion having a recess accessible from the exterior thereof, a razor blade hone carried by the body and forming one wall of said recess, a blade-carrier mounted in the recess for reciprocation longitudinally of the hone, said carrier being disposed in juxtaposed position to the hone and located such distance therefrom that a blade carried thereby is flexed when mounted thereon and when moved into engagement with the honing surface, said carrier having a handle projecting from one end thereof and disposed outside the confines of the recess, by means of which the carrier may be reciprocated with reference to the hone with the razor blade spring-pressed by its own resilience against the home for sharpening purposes.
3. A device of the character described comprising a body portion having a recess accessible from the exterior portion thereof, a curved razor blade hone carried by the housing and disposed within the recess, a channel-shaped guideway extending lengthwise of the hone and facing it, means for adjusting the position of said guideway, a'blade carrier slidably mounted in the guideway and projecting beyond the block whereby ahlade supported on the carrier may be flexed when moved into engagement with the hone, said carrier having a handle projecting beyond the housing by means of which the carrier may be reciprocated with respect to the hone for razor .blade sharpening purposes.
4. In a device of the character described, a housing having a recess therein accessible from the exterior portion thereof, 'acurved razor blade hone forming a wall of the recess and extending in the same general longitudinal direction thereof, a block carried by the housing and having a guideway therein facing the honing surface, the guideway being disposed adjacent the "mid-portion of .the hone and extending lengthwise thereof, means Ior fastening the guide block ,in the housing including set screws for adjusting it ascurately in position, .a blade-carrier lslidably mounted in the guidewayand projecting into the recess above the top of the block, said carrier having :space'd posts thereon adapted for centering a blade thereon, and the carrier having a handle projecting outside the recess by means of which the carrier may be reciprocated with respect to the hone for the razor blade sharpenin purposes.
5. A toilet kit comprising a housing having a recess therein, a razor blade hone carried by the housing and forming one longitudinal wall of the recess, a channel-shaped guideway located opposite the hone and extending longitudinally thereof and spaced therefrom, a slide mounted in the guideway and adapted to carry a razor blade with .its edges engaging the bone, means for reciprocating the slide alon the guideway and means "for centering the guideway with reference to the hone and accurately adjusting it toward the hone comprising set screws engaging opposite walls of the guideway and set screws engaging the base of the guideway.
