Description

ModeL) LE R. B. HAFF. Game Counter.
No. 242,635. Patented June 7,188l.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR: 50 WWW oifil z/v k gz ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LE ROY B. HAFF, OF ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY.
GAME-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,635, dated June 7, 1881,
Application filed March 17, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LE ROY B. HAFF, of Englewood, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Game-Oounter, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved device for registering the games and the points thereof in whist and other games.
The invention consists of a circular bottom plate or disk having a raised perforated rim and attached pointer, ofa circular central plate or disk airanged to revolve in one direction within or upon the bottom plate, and having numbers or figures on its rim corresponding with the perforations in the rim of the bottom plate, and of a circular cap or disk arranged to revolve in an opposite direction within the sunken center of the central plate, and having an indicating point or mark on its upper face, a spindle attached to and rising from the bottom plate serving as a pivot for the revolving parts of the device.
Figure 1 is a plan of the counter, with parts broken away to exhibit other parts. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of the counter on line 3 y, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation on line a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical cross-section on line 2 2, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the bottom plate, provided with a raised rim, A, having in this instance ten perforations, a, and provided with a central spindle, B. On the other edge of said plate A is finger or pointer I), extending upward, as shown.
0 represents the central circufar plate, having in this instance the figures or numbers from 0 to 9, inclusive, as shown at b, inscribed on its rim. The center ot' this plate 0 is depressed, as shown at c, and is perforated, as shown at (1,130 fit over the spindle B. Fixed on the under side of this central depression, 0, is a stud,f, in a slot in which is held aspring, D, whose curved free end engages in the perforations a. 0n the upper face of this depression c is fixed a stud, g, in a slot in which is fixed a spring, E, whose end is curved in opposite direction to the end of the spring D, and is designed to engage in the perforations h (of which in this instance there are ten) in the downward-projecting rim of the cap F.
(Model.)
This cap F is provided with a central knob or handle, F, having a perforation or socket, m, which is fitted over the upper end of the spindle B. ()n the face of said cap F the word Games is inscribed, and an indicating-point, it, serves to point to the figure on the plate 0.
The parts being assembled as shown in the drawings, a turn of the cap F will lock it with the plate 0, because of the engagement of the spring E in a perforation, h, and thus the cap Fand plate 0 will turn together over the plate A, and the end of the spring D will snap into one of the perforations a. at the same instant that one of the figures on the rim of the plate (3 comes opposite the pointer b, and in this manner, by repeated turnings of the cap and plate F G, the points of the game are registered.
To register the number of games the cap F is turned to the right, which movement unlocks it from the plate O, and as the point it comes opposite a number on the plate 0 this spring E snaps into one of the perforations h in the cap-rim and holds said cap F in that relative position with the plate 0 until said cap F is again turned to the right. Thus it will be seen that the points and games can be registered without the counting of one interfering with the counting of the other.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pateut 1. ln a game-counter, the combination of the circular bottom plate, A, having a raised perforated rim, central plate, 0, having a depressed center, cap F, havin g a perforated rim, and springs D E, arranged and operated sub stantially as set forth.
2. In a game-counter, the combination, with the plate A, having perforated rim A and pointer I), of the central plate, '0, having ures b, and provided with spring D, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the points in the game may be registered, as set forth.
3. In a game-counter, the combination, with the plate 0, provided with spring E and figures b, of the cap F, provided with perforated rim, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the games may be registered, as set forth.
