1 Claim.
This invention relates to a rod kit.
An object of the invention is to'provide a compact kit in which a rod and accessories for certain sport or cleaning equipment can be carried in a small space, and which can be easily handled and assembled, and in which parts of the container of the kit cooperate both in holding the parts of the equipment in the container and also in the handling of the equipment in use'.
Another object of this invention is to provide a gun-rod kit wherein parts of the gun rod function for completing a compact container of a sectional rod, wherein the parts of the rod and accessory devices can be carried in a convenient small space, yet can be readily assembled for use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a gun-rod kit which is highly useful and simple in construction. Convenience of arrangement, lightness and comparative inexpense of manufacture are further objects which have been borne in mind in the production and development of the invention.
The essential features of the invention involved in the carrying out of the objections indicated are susceptible to modification, but a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a partly fragmental side view of my kit.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my kit.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the mounting of the gun rod in the end plug of the kit.
Fig. 4 is an end view of said mounting, and
Fig. 5 is a partly sectional view of the first section of the gun rod and a mounting ball at its end.
My invention is hereby illustrated in connection with gun-rod and cleaning equipment. A tube I forms the body of the container of the kit. A partition 2 across the tube separates the space in the tube I into two compartments 3 and 4. Inasmuch as the partition 2 is closer to one end of the tube I than to the other, the compartment 3 is longer than the compartment 4.
The gun-rod is made of several sections, each substantially the same length' or Slightly shorter then the compartment 3 so that the sections when severed can be stored in said compartment 3. `Section 6 is the handle section of the gunrod and it has a handle knob 1 thereon whereby the gun-rod can be held and manipulated. This knob 1 has a reduced plug 8 formed thereon adjacent a shoulder 9. The rod section 6 is suitably xed centrally into said plug 8 and knob 1.
(Cl. 20G- 16) Th'e end of the tube I at the longer compartment 3 is slit in a substantially T slit II to render it stifliy resilient. The plug 8. of the knob I tightly fits into said slitted end of the tube I when said handle section 6 of the gun rod is inserted into said compartment 3, and thus the knob 1 functions as a plug and closure for the rod-containing compartment 3 of said kit tube I.
An intermediate section I2 of said gun-rod is formed with a reduced threaded stem I3 at one end to t into a threaded socket in the end of the handle section 1. In the other end of said intermediate rod section is a threaded socket I 6 into which' ts a similar threaded stem of the next rod section. The tip rod section I1 is similar to the intermediate rod sectin I2.
A suitable tip I8 ts threadedly into the socket in the end of the last mentioned section I1. This tip is comparatively short and is adapted in any suitable manner to hold a cleaning medium. This tip I8 is kept in the shorter compartment 4. In this shorter compartment 4 are also stored cleaning accessories such as oil and the like indicated at I9. A plug 2l closes the end of the tube I at the end of the short compartment 4.
The entire kit is compact. The rod sections are held in the long compartment 3 with the rod handle knob 1 plugging the adjacent end of the tube and the long compartment 3. The other accessories are contained in the short compartment 4. When it is desired to use said gun-rod, then the handle knob 1 is pulled out of the tube I removing the handle section I therewith. Then the threaded end of the section 6 is threaded together with the tting end of the neXt section and then the added sections are screwed in place. Finally the tip from the other compartment is screwed on the tip section and the rod is ready for use. After use the sections are separated from one another, and placed in the respective compartments. The compartment 3 is wide enough to accommodate the other rod sections along the handle section 6. Finally the 'handle section 6 is inserted into the compartment 3 and the plug 8 of the handle knob 1 is pressed into the open end of the compartment 3 to securely plug the same.
The handle section 6 of th'e gun rod is mounted in the handle knob 1 by extending the handle section 6 through a bushing 22, which bushing has in its inner end a, semi-spherical socket 23. A ball 24 threaded on said end of the handle section 6 nts into said spherical socket 23 and also in a recess 2B within the knob I. The knob 1 has a pocket 21 therein into which the bushing 22 ts tightly.
2 1. The tight fitting bushing 22 thereafter holds 5 the gun rod section 6 in position. Thus the knob 1 functions as a rotatable end of the' ygun rod as wen as the closure 'of the hoilbv'v mbe i of the kit. Y
A gun-rod kit of the character described, coni-- prising a, tube having a compartment longitudif-Y/ Y nally formed therein and open at an end Ythere- I claim: v 10 -tom of said compartment, said partition being spaced from the other end of said tube and forming a second compartment for cleaning accessories for said gun rod, and a closure on said second end of said tube.
