BACK-PAD For: HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,376, dated May 31, 1881.
Application filed February 19, 1881. (No model.)

Be it known that I, OHRIs'rAN SOHARRING- HAUSEN,21 citizen of the United States, resident at Elgin, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Pads for Harness; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a representation of a sectional view, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View, of the same.
This invention relates to saddle-trees, more particularly the pad-iron therefor.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A is the pad-iron for a saddle-tree, having the curved form, as shown. The edgesB B are turned up- Ward, forming the flanges I) b, as shown.
E F F are three bosses rising from the upper face ofthe iron, and screw threaded intern all y at eff, to receive the threaded shanks of the water-hook and terrets. The saddleleather comes over the face of this iron, fitting snugly between the flanges b b, the bosses passin ,9; up through mrforationsin theleather, their heights being sufficient to receive two thick nessesofleather, whichis usualin making-pads.
