Sol H. Kohen, Los Angeles, Calif.; bach assignor to said Kohen Application April 4, 1944, serial No. 529,467
(ci. 15o-3s) l Claim. 1
This invention relates to a billfold and more particularly to means forattaching card or win- 1 dow sections to the billfold.
. Heretofore in the use of a billfold which is equipped with one or more window sections. the one, two, or more window sections are attached to the billfold by some lacing means necessitating eyeleting of the parts to be attached and some lacer to connect them together. The usual lacer may be a shoe string or something similar. This assembly is a clumsy attachment of thev parts and requires considerable time for attaching or detaching the window sections with reference to the billfold.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide assemblies which may be quickly and easily had.
Another object of this invention is 'to provide mechanical assemblies, making unnecessary the use of eyelets or a lacer.
Another object of this invention is to provide an arrangement so that one, two, three, or more sections may be assembled with the billfold or easily and quickly detached therefrom selectively as desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device by which the parts arel assembled which will be neat and inconspicuous yet eiective in the perfomance of its functions'.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features 4oi' construction, as will be more fully described and parn ticularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the billfold in fold'- ed position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the billfold in open position and showing the same` as suspend# ed from the chain which is shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the attaching clip or members used for assembling the sections;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of the detachable sections;
Fig. 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a section on line 6-6 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 7 is asectional view on line 'I-I of Fig. 2;
Fig. 8 is a fragmental view of the clip on the billfold with the sections removed.
. 5 In proceeding with this invention we have provided a clip which may be easily slipped over one` of the walls oi' a bllfold and into which additional separable sections may be easily assembled added parts thereinto.
hook 21 extends over the edge 22 of the wall I2 along their fold line so that their fold line will 5B 0 hinge portion. This hinge portion 35 of the secsaid Schup- 2. be held to the hinge or fold line of the billfold in a book-like assembly of the parts.
With reference to the drawing, the billfold proper is designated generally I0 and consists of an outer wall II and an inner wall I2 which walls are sewed together along their ends I3 and along the bottom I4 while partition I5 and additional card-retaining mean's I6 may be assembled with the walls by the sewing which is provided for attaching them. Additional sewings as at I8 may be provided for the attachment of the card-receiving pocket. The walls I0 and I I are foldable as at I9 and 20 to provide a hinge portion so that the billfold may be doubled upon itself in a generally book-like formation.
The inner wall I2 is detached from the outer wall II along the hinge portion at its upper edge 2| and also at its lower edge 22 so that these edges are free from the outer wall II and it is about this portion that the clip-like member for securing additional sections in position is located. This clip-like member is designated generally 25 and shown in Fig. 3 in perspective. It comprises, a member 26 having a hook 21 Vat one end while it isfolded as at 28 along an arc to provide resilience and proceeds to form a. member 29 extending a part. of the length of the member 26, with its end flared outwardly as at 30 to provide a mouth 3| for the reception of the This member 25 is positioned about the hinge portion of the wall I2 by locating the member 26 between the walls II and I2 and the member 29 on the inner portion of the wall i2, while the so that the wall is embraced by the member. 'I'he wall I2 is of a Width or dimension so that it will engage the inner edge of the hook 21 and the arc 28 to prevent the member from sliding from the wall. The lip 30 extends outwardly from the wall, as shown in Fig. '1, so that sheet-like portions may be slid beneath the member 29.
'Ihe window-like sections which-we assemble with the bill fold are designated generally 32, as shown in plan view in Fig. 5. Each of these consists ol.' a part 33 and a part 34 which are joined together by hinge portion 35 so that these parts may be folded one on .the other in a manner similar .to that of folding the bill fold along its tions, or for a plurality of sections if desired, may be assembled with the bill :Iold by sliding .this hinge portion 3l beneath the lip 30 and along under the member 29 until it has reached th folded portion 28 and :then the opposite edge ma v be tucked beneath the hook 21 whereby a comadditional sections in the 'bill' fold. We-"havevillustrated in Fig. 2 two such sections but-it will be understood thatv additional sections may be provided v.to the extent lthat the book-likel parts may he necessary for carrying cards or the like desired.
Each of :the sections 33 and 34 comprise transparent par-ts 36 and 31 open as at 38 at one edge while secured by bindings 39 along their sides so that cards may be slipped into the open mouth 38 to be viewed through the windows 36 by merely opening the 1Dill fold in a book-like manner.
If desired, a flexible member such as a chain 40 may be attached by a ring 4l to the arched bendable portion 28 while a clip 42 may be provided for attachment to the belt at its opposite end.
We claim:
A bill fold having opposite walls secured to each other in a manner to provide a, pocket in which bills are received, a spring clip having a pair of arms connected and located on opposite sides of one of said walls, one of said arms having a hook lto extend over one edge of the wall and the other of said arms extending substantially to but short oi said hook having a free end turned outwardly facing the hook and providing "aL-mouth for the receptionand removal from between it .and its embraced Wall lofy aVv separable foldable element with the fold being in alignment with said arms.`
