Description
NOV. 29, 193*. s. D. LEGHT BOOKLET AND COVER MEANS Filed Sept. 28, 1936 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 29, 1938 OFFICE 6 Claims.
This invention relates to'booklets and holders therefor and has for its object to provide a display booklet which may be opened to a standing position and which, when folded, is enclosed in a cover which protects it from damage such as may be expected from daily use as by salesman.
A specific object is to provide a triangular shaped stand having the bottom side thereof collapsible so that the other two sides may be folded against each other and to use one of the latter sides as a backing for the leaves of the booklet.
Another object is to provide an outer cover means or holder for the leaves and triangular stand, the stand being secured to one fold of the cover so that the remaining fold or folds may be used for other purposes as for instance to carry an order book.
Another object is to provide a triangular support, as above described, and to teach the manner of mounting the support and booklet in a brief case type of holder such that the booklet will be wholly enclosed.
Another object is to provide a triangular support and booklet together with detachable means for the securement thereof to a cover which may be made of comparatively inexpensive material and serve for a prolonged time.
Other objects and advantages will become more fully apparent as reference is had to the accompanying drawing wherein my invention is illustrated and in which Figure l is a perspective View of my improved booklet, support and cover,
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the showing of Figure l, in folded relation,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of my improved booklet with a. modified form of support and cover means,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of my improved booklet and support with another modified form of cover means,
Figure 5 is a section through one corner of the triangle and cover means of Figure 4, and
Figure 6 is a partial section showing a modified manner of attachment to the cover means.
More particularly, 5 indicates a number of leaves of a booklet which are bound together and to a stiff backing 2 by any suitable means such, for instance, as rings or a continuous wire loop device 3. The loops 3 serve as a hinge for the leaves and also as an attaching hinge means for securing the backing 2 to another stiff sheet member 4. The members 2 and 4, when spread, form two sides of a triangle, the other side of which is composed of two members 5 joined together at a flexible joint 6 and attached respectively to the members 2 and 4 at 1 and 8 respectively. The side 5 is then secured to the cover means 9 immediately adjacent the edge 6 to form a hinge for the side 2. r
The cover means 9 when fully opened is of substantially equal width to that of the leaves i and approximately three times as long so that when the joint 5 is elevated to cause collapsing of the triangle 2, l, 5, one end In is folded over the hinge 8 and the leaves I, and the other side H is folded over the hinge 8 and the side I whereupon the sides l0 and I! may be secured by a snap fastener l2.
The insides of the sides Ill and H may be provided with pockets I3 for order books and the like.
The form shown in Figure 3 is the same as that of Figure 1 except that the side Ill is omitted. This is a cheaper form with the disadvantage that the edges of the leaves are not so well protected. However, it illustrates the incorporation of the triangular booklet support in a book type cover. The numerals la, 2a, etc., on this figure correspond to the numerals I, 2, etc., of Figure 1 and the description need not be repeated.
Figures 4 and illustrate the leaves lb secured to a backing M which has a securing flap I! hingediy secured thereto at its lower corner for connection to the flap l5 which is stitched or otherwise secured to the cover means 56. This flap ll resides between the flap I5 and the base it so that all three parts may be secured together by means of thumb clips or screw brads [9. The cover means it is in the form of a zipper type case which completely encloses the booklet and support when closed.
Figure 6 represents a further modification wherein the leaves Ic are provided with a backing 22 hingedly connected to the other upright leg 28 of the triangle without play such as is found in the form illustrated in Figure 1. The rings or loops 22 which secure the leaves lc to the backing 2U serve to connect the backing to the base 23 of the triangle and they also connect the two sides of the triangle and 23 to a flap 24% which is removably secured to a flap 25 by the brads 26. The flap 25 is stitched or otherwise permanently secured to the cover means 21.
What I claim is:
l. The combination of a booklet, a triangular support for said booklet one side of which comprises a backing for said booklet, another of which comprises a base jointed along a median line and the other of which is attached at one edge to said backing and along its other edge to said base, all of said sides being hingedly connected to the sides adjacent thereto, said support being connected at its base to a cover means for the two major sides of said booklet when said support is collapsed.
2. The combination of a booklet, a triangular support for said booklet with the leaves thereof connected to said support at its apex, one side of said support comprising a backing for said booklet, another of said sides comprising a base jointed along a median line and the other of which is attached at one edge to said backing and along its other edge to said base, all of said sides being hingedly connected to the sides adjacent thereto, said support being hingedly connected to a cover means at the hinge of said backing and said base, said cover means for the major sides of said booklet and the edge thereof hinged to said backing.
3. The combination of a booklet, a triangular support for said booklet one side of which comprises a backing for said booklet, another of which comprises a base jointed along a median line and the other of which is attached at one edge to said backing and along its other edge to said base, all of said sides being hingedly connected to the sides adjacent thereto, said support being hingedly connected to a cover means at the hinge of said backing and said base, said cover means for the major sides of said booklet, the edge thereof hinged to said backing and the edge thereof opposite the said hinged edge.
4. The combination of a booklet, a triangular support for said booklet one side of which comprises a backing for said booklet, another of which comprises a base jointed along a median line and the other of which is attached at one edge to said backing and along its other edge to said base, all of said sides being hingedly connected to the sides adjacent thereto, said support being hingedly connected to a cover means at the hinge of said backing and said base, said cover means for said booklet after collapsing said support.
5. In combination, an elongated cover means, a triangular support for the leaves of a booklet having the three sides thereof each attached to adjacent sides by hinges, one of said hinges also constituting a hinge for the leaves of said booklet, another of said hinges being hingedly attached to said cover means thereby forming a three way hinge at one corner of said support, the base of said support being jointed whereby elevation of the joint causes a collapsing of said support, said cover means being adapted to overlie the surfaces of said leaves and the hinge of said leaves when said support is collapsed.
6. In combination, an elongated cover means, a triangular collapsible support for a booklet having each side thereof hin-gedly connected to adjacent sides, the hinge at the apex of said support being of bent Wire and constituting also the holding means and hinge for the leaves forming said booklet, a further hinge adjacent a hinge at the base of said support for securing said support to said cover means, and means for detachably securing said support to said further hinge Whereby said booklet with its support may be removed from said cover means.
