UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo PHILIP MICHEL, OF STAPLETON, NEW YORK.
wlNDow-SHADE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,689, dated May 17, 1881. i
` Application filed March 25,1881. (No model.)
To all. whom it may concern Be it known that I, PHILIP MIcI-IEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of NewYork, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Shades, of Which the following is a speciiication.
This invention consists in a metallic binding-strip provided with two folds, one embracing the edge of the shade and the other embracing theedge of a pendent trimming to produce a facile connection of such trimming with the shade.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front view. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on a larger scale than the previous figure.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
` The letter A designates the shade, B the binding-strip, and C the trimming. The shade A and trimming O are made of any usual or suitable materials, and the binding-strip B is bent lengthwise t-o conformi to the shape of the lowel` edge of the shade, this edge being in this example cut to an ornamental shape. The bindin g-strip B is formed of sheet metal, and with a double fold, d e, in crosssection, the fold d opening in an upper direction and embracing the edge of the shade A, While the fold -e opens in a lower direction and embraces the edge of the trimming O, so that the latter occupies the required pendent position.
In applying the strip B the edges of the shade and trimming, respectively, are inserted in the folds d e, and then the folds are compressed or attened-as, for instance, by pressing the whole between pressing-rollers, the parts being thus firmly connected together.
It will be perceived that the metallic bindingfstrip B serves to protect thelower edge of 4o fore set forth, of the shade, the metallic binding-strip formed with a double fold, and the pendent trimming, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
