SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,312, dated May 10, 1881.
Application filed January 15, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARK A. The stick B is composed of two parts the end I) and the cane C. To the end 11' the ribs are fastened in the usual manner. Upon this end 1), within the ribs, there is fastened a tube, D, having a slot, d. Pivoted below this slot at c is a catch, E, which is held through this slot by a spring, F, its head 0 projecting inward.
G is a bead for the lower catch to engage to hold the umbrella raised.
To the outside of the lower tube, 1?, to which the lower ends of the braces are fastened, is attached the catch H, whose head It engages bead G, and is held down by a spring, I.
(No model.)
The cane Chas at one end the handle 0, and at the other the ferrule K, with the flange k. This cane is to be run through the lowertube up into the upper one, D, and when in place the catch E engages the flange k of ferrule K and prevents the cane from slipping out.
To withdraw the cane it is only necessary to release the catch E and pull the cane from the tubes.
This device furnishes a combined umbrella and cane which can be quickly put together or separated, so that either article is ready for use with very little trouble in making a change.
A combined umbrella and caneis not broadly new, and protection is asked only for the improved construction of the same hereinshown and described and hereinafter specifically claimed.
