Description

NOW 1946. v s. WIRSING ETAL 1 HAIR CURLER Filed Feb. 13,--1945 /4 23 I limit. Z7 25 2 32 U. WWI U H jog/Wm Z7 34 730540 M z'nsz'n w v J j m, Attorneys Patented Nov. 5, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAIR CURLER Sebastian Wirsing and Rosa Wirsing, Long Island City, N. Y.
Application February 13, 1945, Serial No. 577,618
3 Claims. (Cl. 13233) This invention relates to hair curlers and has for its object to provide means for curling a strand of hair and placing a pair of bobby pins or the like thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a member upon which a strand of hair may be curled, having means for retaining the end of the hair to be formed into the curl, said means being adapted to being withdrawn after the curl has been formed and during the withdrawal thereof attach a pair of clips to the curl to hold the same secured.
Another object of the invention is to provide a U-shaped member having means for holding and applying to a curl of hair a pair of clips.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of my device,
Figure 2 is another elevational view thereof,
Figure 3 is an enlarged end view of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is an elevational view showing a curl secured by a pair of clips.
In the accompanying drawing as above enumerated and in the following specification, like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout and in which 40, indicates my invention which comprises a U-shaped member ll, having arms I2 and i3, to the lower ends of which are secured clips l4 and IS, the arms [6 and I! of which are inserted through passages l3 and I9, formed in the terminals 20 and 2|, of said arms 12 and [3. To the lower end of the arm I2, is fixed a spring clip 22, adapted to cross the space 23, between the arms l2 and I3, and the end 24, of which bears against the inner surface of the arm [3. The elongated outer arms 25 and 26, of the clips 2'! and 28, the arms I6 and ll, of which are frictionally held in said passages l8 and I9, are turned out as at 29 and 30, but engage the arms [2 and I3, frictionally at the bends 3| and 32, of said terminals 29 and 30.
In use a suitable strand of hair for forming a curl is pushed in between the terminals 20 and 2!, of the said member II, and up towards its head portion 33, which strand will be engaged and held by the spring end 24, whereupon the user wraps the strand around the member H, until a curl is formed of suitable diameter, then the said head 33, is held between the fingers of the user and gradually pulled from the curl which action will cause the upturned ends 29 and 30 to pass over the outer surfaces of the curl 3i, and the inner arms It and ll, of the clips 27 and 28, will be drawn within the curl and against the inner surfaces thereof, whereby the curl-will be securely held by the said clips or bobby pins 21 and 28. After the curl has been held a sufficient time to form the curl, the said clips are removed.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
I-Iavini-i. now described our invention that which we claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hair curler comprising a U-shaped member and a spring fixed to one arm thereof and detachably engaging its other arm, the terminal of said arms being apertured and a. pair of clips each having a straight arm for seating in one of the apertures and a curved arm bearing against the U-member arm to which it is attached.
2. A curler having arms with tubular ends, a spring clip having a straight arm projecting into one of the tubes and having an arm outwardly of the tubular end and bearing there-against at one point, a spring intermediate the curler arms and fixed to one thereof and bearing movably against the other, and a similar arranged clip carried by the other curler arm.
3. A curler having arms with tubular ends, a spring clip having a straight arm projecting into one of the tubes and having an arm outwardly of the tubular end and bearing there-against at one point, and a spring intermediate the curler arms and fixed to one thereof and bearing movably against the other.
