Description

Oct. 1, 1 946 scHbN'rHAL SAFETY POCKET LOCK Filed Aug. 11, 1944 INVENTOR. I
ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 1, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAFETY POCKET LOCK Leopold Schonthal, New York, N. Y., assignor of one-third to Eugene Roth, Elmsford, and one third to Nathan Jarvis, New York, N. Y.
Application August 11, 1944, Serial No. 548,969
2 Claims.
purpose of illustration only, and that it is neither desired nor intended to limit the invention necessarily to the specific details of construction shown excepting insofar as they may be deemed essential to the invention.
Referring briefly to the drawing,
Fig. 1 is an enlarged fragmentary View of a garment having a pocket therein provided with the safety pocket lock.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers, illustrating the device applied to a back pocket.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l indicates a pair of trousers having the back pocket H and the adjacent side pocket l2,the latter comprising an outer wall [3 and an inner wall l4.
A zipper I6 is sewed onto the upper edges of the two walls l'| and I8 of the back pocket H,
and is provided with a pivoted extension ear I9 on the slide 20. A chain or the like 2| has one end secured to the ear I9, and the other end of the chain is secured to one of the two members of a snap button, shown at 22. The other mem- 2 ber 23 of the snap button is sewed against the wall I4 of the side pocket I2 in a position well up toward the top of the pocket and within the confines of the pocket.
Fig. 2 shows the pocket in safely locked condition, with the zipper closed, that is, the slide drawn over to the right-hand end, and the chain stretched or looped into the side pocket l2 with the snap button members in mutually interlocking engagement. It is apparent that the zipper It cannot be opened without releasing the snap button engagement, and it is further apparent that if a pickpocket should endeavor to reach into the side pocket [2 to undo the snap button he will certainly arouse the prospective victim owing to the impossibility of attaining that end without disturbing the wearer.
Obviously, modifications in form and structure may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a pair of trousers or the like having a back pocket and a side pocket adjacent thereto, a zipper closure including a slide provided on said back pocket, a snap button, one-half of said snap button being secured in said side pocket,
a chain having one end secured to said slide and the other end to the other half of said snap button.
2. The device set forth inc'laim 1, said firstnamed one-half of said snap button being positioned against the inner wall of said side pocket near the top thereof.
LEOPOLD SCHONTHAL.
