The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in women's underwear of the combination slip and brassiere type, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of this character comprising a novel construction whereby the breast pockets may be conveniently opened to facilitate nursing.

Other objects of the invention are to provide an undergarment of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, durable, attractive in appearance, comfortable, and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing, and still further objects and advantages of the invention, will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary-view in front elevation of a nursing slip constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing both of the pockets closed.

Figure 2 is a front elevational view but showing one of the pockets open.

Figure 3 is a front elevational view of a modification.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation of the modification, showing the brassiere open.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary view in section, taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.

Referring now to the drawing in detail and to Figures 1 and 2 thereof in particular, it will be seen that reference character I designates generally the upper portion of a slip of suitable material. Mounted on the upper portion of the slip I is a brassire 2. The slip l includes a center front panel 3 comprising an upwardly projecting, substantially V-sh'aped upper end portion 4.

The pockets 5 of the brassire 2 include free, substantially triangular inner portions 6 and I.

6 and 1 are adapted to be secured to the complemental marginal edges of the panel portion 4 through the medium of buttons 8 which are insertible in holes 9. The inner end of the portion 6 of one of the pockets 5 is detach'ably connected to the apex of the panel portion 4 by a snap fastener l0. Then, coacting fastener elements ll of the hook and eye type detachably connect the inner ends of the pocket portions 5 and l.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a garment has been provided which normally has the appearance of a conventional combination slip and brassiere. However, the construction and arrangement is such that either or both of the pockets 5 may be readily opened to permit nursing. This, of course, is accomplished by simply disconnecting the portions 6 and I at l I and then unbuttoning either or both of said portions from the upper part 4 of the panel 3. If both of the breast pockets are to be opened, the portion 6 is also disconnected at l0.

In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings, reference character [2 designates generally the upper portion of a slip having mounted thereon a brassiere l3. The slip l2 includes a center front panel l4 comprising a substantially V-shaped upper end portion l5 which extends to the top of the brassiere l3 and constitutes the central portion of the front thereof. The inner ends of the pockets I6 of the brassire 13 are oppositely inclined and detachably connected to the correspondingly inclined edges of the panel portion l5 through the medium of zipper fasteners ll. Thus, either of the pockets l6 may be readily opened by disconnecting same from the panel portion l5.

It is believed that the many advantages of a nursing slip constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although preferred embodiments of the garment are as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that further modifications and changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. For example, in the form of the invention shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, snap fasteners or hooks and eyes may be substituted for the buttons and holes 8 and 9, respectively. Also, referring to the embodiment of Figure 3 of the drawings, othersuitable types of fasteners may be substituted for the zippers l1 and a fly comprising suitable fasteners may be provided therebelow, as in Figure 1.

What is claimed is:

1. A slip comprising a body having a center {front panel provided at the top with a projecting upper end of inverted V-shape, nd a brassiere permanently secured to the upper end of the body and having front pockets provided with downwardly diverging inclined edges at the inner sides thereof and adjacent and parallel with the inclined side edges of the projecting upper end of the center front panel, means separably connecting the inclined edges of the pockets to the adjacent inclined edges of the projecting upper end of the center front panel, said pockets having short vertical edges extending upwardly from the upper ends of the inclined edges thereof and above the upper end of the center front panel, and means to separably connect said short vertical edges together, substantially the inner half of each pocket being turnable outwardly upon release of said first and second-named means to facilitate nursing.

A slip comprising a body having a center front panel provided at the top with a projecting upper end of inverted substantially V-shape, and a brassire permanently secured to the upper end of the body and having front pockets, said bras- 5 siere being slitted at the inner sides of the pockets to the upper edge of the brassire whereby the pockets may be opened, the slitting providing the pockets with downwardly diverging edges at the inner sides thereof, said downwardly diverging edges of the pockets and the edges of the projecting upper end of the center front panel being inclined so that substantially the inner half of each pocket is turnable outwardly to facilitate nursing, and releasable closure means for the pockets including fasteners separably connecting the inclined edges of the pockets to the inclined edges of the projecting upper end of the center front panel.
