Description

Aug. 6,1946. J. SCHIER I 2,405,372
r I SELF-CLEANING COMB AND CASE THEREFOR- I Fild April 24, 1945 Patented Aug. 6, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SELF-CLEANING COMB AND CASE THEREFOR.
6 Claims.
This invention relates to combs, and more particularly, to a comb carried in a case provided with means for automatically cleaning the comb.
A main object of the invention is to provide an improved combination comb and case with cleaning means for the comb provided in said case.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel self-cleaning comb and case combination of extremely simple and economic construction.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a combination comb and case therefor in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the comb and case structure of Figure 1 showing the comb in extended position.
Figure 3 is a view corresponding to Figure 2 but illustrating a modification of the structure thereof.
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, I designates a comb member adapted to be contained between a pair of Wall members 2 and 3, which may be of plastic or other suitabl material. Comb I is pivotally secured between wall members 2 and 3 by a rivet element 4 which loosely passes through the wall members and the comb adjacent one end of the assembly and provides a hinge for the comb with respect to the wall members while allowing said wall members to be at times rotated with respect to each other. Adjacent the other end of the assembly a snap element 5 is provided comprising mating snap members fastened to the respective wall members for detachably securing the wall members together. Embedded in wall member 2 at its inner surface are a plurality of longitudinal rows of bristles 6. Embedded in wall member 3 at its inner surface are a plurality of longitudinal rows of bristles I, staggered with respect to bristles 6, as shown in Figure 4.
Comb I is adapted to be cleaned by rotating said comb clockwise on hinge 4 from an extended position such as shown in Figure 2, through wall members 2 and 3 .50 that the rows of bristles 6 and 1 may clear the teeth of comb l of any loose hairs, dirt, dandruff or other material. Comb l is provided with an extension 8 for facilitating said rotation. Comb l is otherwise normally retained between wall members 2 and 3, as shown in Figure 1.
When it is desired to clean the bristles 6 and I of any accumulation of hairs and dirt, wall members 2 and 3 may be separated by detaching them at snap fastener 5 and rotating them apart for access to their inside surfaces. After cleaning bristles 6 and I the wall members may be again fastened together at snap fastener 5.
In the modification shown in Figure 3, one of the wall members comprises a flexible portion 9 of fabric or other suitable flexible material which may be folded back with respect to a rigid wall member ID for cleaning the bristles on the inner surfaces of the Wall members. When flexible wall member 9 has been re-connected to rigid wall member I0, comb I may be cleaned in the same manner as in the preceding embodiment and may be housed between the wall members in the same manner as shown in Figure 1.
While certain specific embodiments of combs and cases therefor have been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that numerous modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A comb and case structure comprising a pair of wall members, a comb adapted to be received between said wall members to form a comb-protecting assembly, a headed pin member pivotally connecting the wall members and the comb adjacent one end of the assembly, means fastening the wall members together adjacent the other end of the assembly, the inner surfaces of the wall member being respectively provided with bristle members, the bristle members of one wall member being staggered with respect to the bristle members of the other wall member.
2. The structure of claim 1, and wherein said means fastening the wall members together adjacent the other end of the assembly is a snap fastener.
3. The structure of claim 1, and wherein one of said wall member is rigid and the other wall member is of flexible material.
4. A comb and case structure comprising a pair of wall members, a comb adapted to be received between said wall members to form a comb-protecting assembly, a rivet member pivotally connecting the wall members and the comb adjacent one end of the assembly, detachable securing means fastening the wall members together adjacent the other end of the assembly, the inner surfaces of the wall members being respectively provided with longitudinal rows of bristle members, the rows of one wall member being staggered with respect to the rows of the other wall member. 5. The structure of claim 4, and wherein one of said wall members is rigid and the other wall member is of flexible material.
6. The structure of claim 4,-and wherein said detachable securing means is a snap fastener.
