GAGE FFOR BRACELETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,418, dated April 19,1881.-
A Application filed February 10, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIs H. Homes, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Size and Form Gages for Bracelets, of which. the following is a specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a part of the same, taken through the line w :0, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of a part of the same, taken through the line y 3 Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to readily ascertain the exact size and form of bracelet required to fit any particular wrist.
The invention consists in constructing a gage for bracelets for four curved corner-pieces connected at their adjacent ends by flexible sliding straps, so that the gage can be readily contracted and expanded to fit a wrist, and thus give the exact form and size of bracelet requiredto fit the said wrist, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
A are four curved pieces, which, when arranged end to end, form the four quarters of an oval. To one end of each of the curved corner-pieces A is attached one end of a flexible metallic strap, B, which slides in a T-groove or other guide in the outer or convex side of the adjacent curved piece A. The strap B is kept from being drawn out of the groove in the curved piece A by a stop, 0, attached to the end of the outer side of the said piece A, against which strikes a stop, D, formed upon or attached to the end of the said flexible strap B.
With this construction the gage can be readily adjusted to a wrist to give the exact size and form of bracelet required for the said wrist,
so thatit will not be necessary for a purchaser the gage, and all that will be further necessary 5 will be for the purchaser to select the style of bracelet desired.
The gage also enables the dealer to order from the manufacturer bracelets to fit any desired wrist.
Upon the-flexible strap B are formed scales of division-marks, numbered by sizes or dimensions, as may be desired, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, for convenience in using the gage.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a size and form gage for bracelets, constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of the four curved corner-pieces A and the four flexible sliding straps B, as set forth.
2. In a size and form gage for bracelets, the combination, with the four curve-d cornerpieces A, of the four flexible sliding straps B, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the exact size and form of bracelet required, to fit any particular wrist can be readily ascertained, as set forth.
WILLIS H. HOWES.
