UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROLLIN S. LAWRENCE, OF OOLETA, ILLINOIS.
WAGON-BOX FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,259, dated April 19, 1881.
' Application filedJanuary21,1 88l. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RoLLIN S. LAWRENCE, of Ooleta, l/Vhiteside county, Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wagons, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The object of my invention is to securely and firmly attach the box to the standard and bolsters of the wagon.
The figure in the drawing represents a side elevation of a section of a wagon-box, bolster, and standard, with the invention applied thereto.
-A and Bin the drawing are the standard and bolster of the wagon as ordinarily used. The cam O, the cam-plate D, and the staybrace E are made of cast-iron or other material, the cam 0 being bolted through both the cam-plate D and the box F, and the stay-brace E being likewise bolted to the box F. A lug or shoulder extends from the cam-plate through the cam O at the point of bolting at i, and lugs also extend into the box from the cam-plate D and the stay-brace E at the points of bolting g, h, 7r, l, and m, thereby making the bolting more substantial and secure. The faces of the standard A may or may not be covered with iron or other material. notched or otherwise, between the stay-brace E and 30 cam O, at theirpointsot' contact with said standard A. The cam O is held securely in place by locking the projection n into the notches 0 in the top of the cam-plate D.
The use of my invention consists in looking or fastening the wagon-box to the standards of the wagon in a secure and immovablemanner by lowering the handle of the cam 0, thereby causing pressure of the cam 0 against the standard A and the stay-brace E, which prevents any noise or motion of the box or the wearing of the bottom of the box on the bolster of the wagon. The above combination of the cam G, cam-plate D, and stay-brace E may likewise be applied directly to the bolster from the bottom of the box.
I claim as my invention The combination, in a lock for securely and firmly locking the box of a wagon to the standard or bolster, substantially as described, of 50 the caniO, the cam-plate D,and stay-brace E, for the uses and purposes above set forth.
