Description

' DENT FRAME FOR LOOM Filed Feb. 12, 1945 @www Patented Apr. 16, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DENT FRAME Fon LooMs Application February 12, 1945, Serial No. 577,455
2 Claims.
It is necessary that the forward edges of the dents of a loom be denitely spaced in respect to the shuttle path. Therefore, if it be desired to `change from dents of one width to dents of another, the alignment of the dent frame must be changed to meet the new condition. This invention has for its object to permit the realignment to be made expeditiously and with a minimum of labor and for this purpose consists in the arrangement of several parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in which corresponding parts are designated by co1'- responding marks of reference- Figure 1 is a vertical section through a loom embodying my improved dent frame.
Figure 2 is a perspective fragmental view thereof, and
Figures 3 and 4 are vertical sections through my improved frame showing different arrangements of the parts thereof.
The lay-sword l, the lay 2, the lay-cradle 3, and lay-cap 4 may be of the usual construction and actuated in the usual manner asby the pitman 5. The cradle and cap are also channelled in the usual manner to receive the upper and lower members of the dent frame. y
Instead of necessarily mounting the dents in the center of the channels of the cradle and cap, as has been the previous practice, I provide for the appropriate displacement of the center of the dents in respect to such channels by forming the upper and lower dent frames of two ribs 6 and 6a respectively which may, or may not, be of the same width, dependent on the thickness of the dents.
Thus, with a wide dent such as is shown in Figure 4, the rib 6a against the non-shuttle edge of the dent is thinner than the rib 6 on the shuttle side of the dent and thinner than the rib 6a that would be used with a narrower dent (see Figure 3).
Thus, in setting the loom for a change involving an alteration in the width of the dents it is only necessary to assemble the dent frame with ribs of the width necessary to displace the medial plane of the dents in respect to the channels in accordance with the Width of the dents.
,Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letter Patent is:
1. A dent frame consisting of dents and upper and lower members, each member consisting of two ribs, one of said ribs being of less thickness than the other. l
2'. The combination in a loom, of 'a channelled lay-cradle, a channelled lay-cap and a dent frame the upper and lower members of which are in the channels, the medial plane of the dents being asymmetrical in respectrto `the members of the dent frame.
FREDERICK M. SUCHKE.
