UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COMBINED TICKET-CASE AND WHISTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,677, dated April 5, 1881.
Application filed May 18, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that I, THEODORE W. SOHWAMB, of the city of Sacramento, State of California, have invented a new and useful Combination of a Ticket-Case and a Whistle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to a peculiar manner of combining a car-ticket case and a whistle together, so as to form an article that will be ornamental, cheap, and simple, and be of such a size and formats to make a convenient and useful pocket article.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts, Figure 1 is a perspective of the article embodied in m y invention, in which S is the ticket-case and w the whistle, and Fig.2 is a sectional elevation of Fig. 1.
By reference to Fig. 1 will be seen the article embodied in my invention, in which S is a ticket-case, supposed to contain ear-tickets, which can be drawn out singly by pressing the finger upon the ticket through the opening a, and sliding the top ticket out through the end opening, a. Under the case S is a fiat whistle, to, made about the same width as the case S, and rigidly connected to or made a part of the same. This whistle will be more fully described in explaining Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the form shown in Fig. 1, in which S is the ticket-box with top opening, a, and end slot, at, through which the tickets are expelled, and T represents a ticket part way through the slot at. Inside of the box S are shown several tickets, T. Under the tickets T is a loose plate, at, and under a: is a spring, 1'. The spring 1* rests on the bottom of the box S and presses the loose plate an upward, thus compressing the tickets T between the plate as and the top of the box (Model in g through it it strikes against the edgeP, that lies in line with the passage through 20, and is formed by the end of the circular metal piece to, which is made of a partof the material that forms to.
The whistling noise is produced by placing the thumb and forefinger over each end of the open cylinder formed by w, and at the same time blowing in the end B. The whistle to is shown connected to the bottom, or, if desired, it maybe made to form the bottom of the box S.
I do not claim, separately, the box S or the whistle w, for 1 know that both arewell-known articles and are now in use.
In constructing the article as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, 1 stamp out a piece of tin or sheet metal, having the opening u punched into it, and by bending it into form make the top, ends, sides and bottom of the box S, and also the top, bottom, sides and cylinder 20 of 10, all out of the one sheet of metal. I
hat I claim as my invention is The herein-described combined ticket-case and whistle, consisting of the flat whistle to, having the turned cylindrical end to", and the ticket-case S, having the curved spring 1 and the openin gs ua, constructedand arranged substantially as set forth and shown, and for the purpose specified.
THEODORE w. SOHWAMB.
