IT'N SSES I INVENTOR a? PH/VV LDUVV rvv ATTORNEY MPEKERS. PIIDTD-LUHOGRAFMER, WASHINGTON. D. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUISE WITTIOH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
' FOOT-REST.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 239,631, dated April 5, 1881.
Application filed December 6, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that .I, LoUIsE WITTIOH, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying draw in gs, which form part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a form of foot-rest which may be readily folded into small compass when not in use, and which will answer the general end of devices of this class in an improved manner. a
The parts constituting the invention will be first described in the specification, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the foot-rest. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 represents the removable parts disconnected from the leg-support. and the hinged legs folded against the bottom of the latter.
The leg-support A has hinged to its under side the two legs B, adapted to fold forwardly against its under side. The forward central portion of the leg-support is provided with a vertical opening, a, inwhich the standard 0 has free -sliding movement. The upper extremity of the standard is provided with a cross-piece, D, the lower edge of the latter bearing upon the leg-support, while its upper edge is provided with a loop, I). A hook, a, connected with the rear face of the cross-piece, engages with an eye, d, projecting from the corresponding portion of the leg-support. This hook and eye. secures the slidingstandard in operative position while the loop b is used as a handle.
When the foot-rest is to be put away the support A and legs B, hinged to the under side of its forward portion, said leg-support having its rear central portion provided with oblong vertical opening a, of standard 0, adapted to have sliding movement in the latter, the upper extremity of the standard being provided with cross-head D, and a fastening device which secures the standard to the legsupport, substantially as set forth.
2. In a foot-rest, the combination, with leg support A and legs B, hinged to the under side of its forward portion and adapted to fold under the leg-support, the rear central portion of a the latter being provided with oblong vertical opening a, of standard 0, fitted loosely in the latter, cross-headD, secured to the standard and having its lower edge bearing against the legsupport and hook-and-eye device 0 d,
which connects the cross-head to the leg-support, the upper edge of the cross-head being provided with loop I), substantially as set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my November, 1880.
