1 Claim. (Cl; 2485--103).1
My'in'vention has reference to. a meansof support for a nursing. bottle, .or..babys milk bottle, such as are used for containing. heated milk. and other liquids in the feedingv ofsameto. the young.- er and more helplessinfants. It is designed for attachment at. the side ofa childs bed, .crib,.baby buggy,,baskt, or other. receptacle for. an infant, and-.canreadily be transferred from one of said containers to another one thereof.
Itwis a recognized-factthat by reason of a young baby requiring'several feedings a day, and on account of quite a little time being given to each feeding, considerable amount of time has to be devoted to an infant on this account, and frequently when the time is needed for some other occupation. The chief purpose of the present invention is to save this time by providing a simple and efiicient means for holding the bottle, with the same in convenient position for the babys use. It is of simple construction, formed almost entirely of wire, and can be produced at a minimum of cost.
The invention embraces a main frame for the support of a bottle in inverted position, with a simple means for attachment thereof to the side rail of a babys bed or coop, or on the side of a buggy or basket, and also capable of being secured to the vertical rails or bars with which most small beds are now provided. The main frame is made to receive a bottle of the eight ounce type or the smaller four ounce size, with a sloping neck, and it is also suited for holding other forms of bottles, such as the Hygeia with tapered walls throughout, or the Vita-Flow with flattened sides, all of which will conform to the shape of the frame, and be held thereby. Connected with the main frame is an uxiliary frame, for attachment to a rail or similar fixture, and capable of various adjustments of position in order to properly position the bottle and holder for feeding the baby.
The above named, and other features and advantages of the invention will more fully appear from the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of one of the devices attached to the side rail of a crib or small bed.
Fig. 2 is larger view, in perspective, showing one of the devices attached to one of the vertical bars of a bed.
Fig. 3 is a detail of the clamping mechanism, attached to one of the bars, with the bar in crosssection.
In Fig. l the reference number 4 indicates the fragmentary part of the side rail of small bed,
and .5 a U-shapedclamp for attachment to said rail by means .of a thumb-screw 6,Thaving-.a threaded connection .Witha .perforation in ..the plate 5aof .the clamp; and with-.asmall disk .at its inner end for bearing against. the rail; The parallel plate 51). of. theclamphas fixed .therein a bolt. 1, provided on its threaded part witha thumb-turn 8, forthe support. of. a bottle-holder, in the manner hereinafter ointed -out..
The. bottle-holder proper .consistsof [a main frameihaving. parallel. side bars 9,.united-ata medial point by a ring 10, of sufficient diameter to permit the insertion and removal of an infants milk bottle of usual size and shape, as indicated at H, and provided with a neck l2, embraced by a ring 13' of less diameter than the ring Ill, and held by the ends of the bars 9, bent inwardly at their ends. By this means a bottle can be supported in the frame in an inverted or partly inverted position. The main frame is provided with an auxiliary supporting frame, formed of vertically disposed wire pieces [5 and I6, united by a bar I1, and connected with the bars of the main frame by arms b8 and I9, all of the parts of said frames and connections being integrally formed.
The bar I! is provided at a point midway its ends with a coil 20, to permit of the mounting of the supporting frame upon the bolt 1, upon which it is tightly held by the thumb-turn 8, holding the main frame in a desired adjusted position with reference to the mattress or bedding beneath it, and child lying thereon. The arm 18 is of greater length than the arm l9, and said arms are given a parallel curvature, as at a and b, with the main frame held at an angle with the side of the bed, and the bottle and nipple Ha. thereon held in the direction of the infants head, convenient for use. The wires of which the frames and their connections are formed are possessed of a sufficient amount of flexibility to permit of a limited amount of bending thereof to assist in properly positioning the same. In Fig. 2 the device is shown attached to a bed having a main rail 2| and vertical bars 22, to one of which is secured a clamp 5, with the wires l5 and 56 in a position with respect tothe clamp at a right angle to the one shown in Fig. 1. It will be noted that the support of the bottle frame is of a pivotal character, and that when it is desired to change the position of the invention from a horizontal side rail such as the rail 4 to a position on the bar 22, the thumb-turn 8 is loosened and the clamp given a quarter-turn with reference to the frame part I5 and I6, and the thumbturn tightened again. This pivotal arrangement also permits of a variety of rotary adjustments by merely loosening the fastening thumb-turn turning the holder to the desired position, and again tightening the parts.
The main frame can also be adjusted for height by forcing the holder part up or down, with the bottle contained therein, if desired, and with the bends in the wires at c and d yielding to the pressure, and permitting a limited amount of movement of the holder frame upwardly or downwardly. In its younger days the feeding is usually carried on with the infant lying on its back or side, and without much change in position from one time to the next, and after the necessary alterations have been made no further change will be required for some time .7 l
The most approved plan of using the invention is by placing a bottle in the holder frame when the same is detached from the clamp, and then supporting the same rigidly in position on the bolt I, with the parts properly, disposed. When it is desired to remove the empty bottle the reverse of this method may be practiced'. It is also convenient to remove the bottle or return it to a position in the holder through the unobstructed end of. the frame, the angleat which the main frame is held with reference to the auxiliary frame providing ample clearance for thebottle.
It will be obvious that the instrument can be readily supported on the side rail of a babycarriage, on a baby basket, and the like for the support of a bottle supplying the needs of an infant carried in such container, as fully and satisfactorily as in the case of the bed.
In detaching the bottle holder from a bed rail or other fixture, for placing or removing a bottle, in some :cases it would be found more convenient to remove the clamp 5 from its position, and replace it in the same or a shifted position after the change had been made.
The device has been set forth herein in its preferred form and arrangement, but changes can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention, as set out and claimed herein.
What I claim, and desire to secure, is,
A device of the class described, comprising a frame formed of a pair of parallel spaced wires and circular wires connecting the same centrally and at one end, with the end one of a diameter preventing the passage of abottle, formed at its rear end into averti cal support by a pair of integral wire connections of varying length calculated to cause an incline of the bottle-holding frame with the side of a bed, a clamp adapted for connection with the side of a bed andthe like. and means on said clamp for engagement with said vertical support, to hold the same fixedly in place.
