HOLDER FOR NURSING BOTTLES Filed June 27, 1955 INVENTOR. @azazdjififra zy United States Patent HOLDER FOR NURSING BOTTLES Donald A. Strong, Reseda, Calif.
Application June 27, 1955, Serial No. 518,135
1 Claim. (Cl. 248-103) This invention relates to holders for nursing bottles and more particularly to an improved form thereof characterized by simple construction and ease of adaptation to suit various positions of use.
An object of the invention is to provide a holding means for nursing bottles comprising a first supporting member resiliently gripping the bottle adjacent bottom end thereof and having means for attachment to a side member of a crib or the like and a second supporting member resiliently gripping the bottle at a longitudinally selected point forwardly of the first member and adapted to rest on the mattress or bedding of the crib.
Another object of the invention is to provide a nursing bottle holding means formed of thin resilient metal strip including resilient arm members which resiliently embrace the side of the bottle.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a nursing bottle holder which is readily manufactured from simple forms of material with a minimum of waste of material and consequent economy of manufacture.
With the foregoing objects in view, together with such additional objects and advantages as may subsequently appear, the invention resides in the parts, and in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts described, by way of example, in the following specification of a presently preferred mode of execution of the invention; reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a babys crib showing the holder embodying the invention supporting a nursing bottle therein,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged scale, top plan view of the components of the holding means arranged as shown in Fig. l the bottle being indicated in broken lines,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged scale elevational view as viewed from the left hand side of the bottle and holding means in Fig. l, and
Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views taken, respectively on the lines 44 and 5--5 of Fig. 3.
The bottle holding means comprises a pair of components which will be termed first and second components for convenient identification. The first component 1 includes a bottle engaging member 2 formed of a strip of resilient material bent to form nearly a complete circle of slightly lesser diameter than the body of a nursing bottle, whereby, the body of the nursing bottle B inserted therein will be firmly gripped thereby. At a point between its ends (preferably, but not necessarily midway thereof) one end of a second strip of metal 3 is attached to the member 2 by any suitable means such as welding as at 4; said strip extending from the member 2 in a direction generally parallel to the axial line of the circle about which the member 2 is formed for a short distance and then being twisted substantially 90 and bent into a hook 5 extending transversely to the length of the strip 3 and disposed at a slight angle to the plane of the straight portion of the strip as shown in Fig. 3; said hook having I 2,919,874 Patented Jan. 5, 1960,
a width sufficient to loosely straddle one of the vertical slats S of the side of the crib as shown in Fig. 1 whereby, when the bottle engaging end is tilted or canted downwardly by the weight of a bottle, the corner edges of the hook will grip the sides of the slat.
The second component 6 comprises a strip of resilient metal having the ends thereof bent from points spaced from the mid length of the strip to incline equally upwardly toward each other with resultant formation of a triangular base portion 7 (see Fig. 4); the ends being secured together by any suitable means such as welding at the apex of the triangle and thence being equally and oppositely curved to form a pair of bottle gripping arms 8, 8, which yieldingly grip the body of the bottle adjacent the open end thereof as best shown in Fig. 3. While reference has been made to the use of metal strip in the above mode of execution of the invention, it will be apparent that a similar pair of supporting means could as readily be made from suitable plastic material with the use of thicker cross sections.
'In use the components are attached to the bottle and adjusted along the length of the bottle to suit the position of the baby relative to the side of the crib and if necessary, the second component may be twisted about the bottle so as to rest on one corner of the triangular base to effect adjustment as to height. The hook 5 can be moved up and down along the slat S and the inclination of the hook relative to the plane of the straight portion of the strip 3 when in slat gripping position allows the bottle to be tipped downwardly toward the baby sufficiently to allow all of the contents to reach the nipple. Further adjustment as to both angle and elevation are readily achieved by adjustment of the compenents lengthwise of the bottle. Thus, due to the frictional grip of the components on the bottle, a wide range of adjustment can be readily achieved.
The component parts are readily made and as readily attached to and detached from the bottle and once adjusted for a feeding, are not subject to being displaced. Due to the resilient engagement with the bottle, they readily accommodate differences in the size of individual bottles.
While in the foregoing specification there has been described a presently preferred embodiment of the invention, it is appreciated that changes and modifications may suggest themselves to others skilled in the art. Accordingly, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the exactform thereof above disclosed and that the invention embraces all such changes and modifications in the parts and in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as shall come within the purview of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a holding means for a babys nursing bottle, a first holding means comprising a clamp yieldably encircling the bottle adjacent the bottom end thereof, an arm carried by said clamping means and extending away from said bottom end in a direction parallel to the general direction of the axis of a bottle held by said clamping means and said arm terminating in a free end having a hook element including a pair of opposed surfaces spaced apart a distance greater than the thickness of a vertical slat forming a part of a side of a crib and adapted to straddle the slat and, in response to the weight of the bottle held by said clamping means, to be canted relative to the slat with resultant frictional gripping of the slat by said opposed surfaces, and a second yieldable holding means engageable with the front end of the bottle and adapted to support the said front end of a bottle in a position placing the nipple in a location convenient for ice the infant while allowing the weight of the rear end off,
3 the bottle to be applied to said arm and said opposed sur- 2,457,972 faces with resultant maintenance of the bottom end' of 2,670,165 the bottle at a desired elevation. 2,803,417
