The invention relates to toys of that type supported on wheels and which when advanced will operate mechanism for producing various contortions.
It is the object of the invention to obtain a construction representing a mans head which, when drawn forward as by a string, will roll the eyes, open the mouth, stick out the tongue and produce other contortions. The invention, therefore, consists in the construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the toy;
Fig. 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section thereof;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation partially in cross section;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing parts in different positions.
The main element A of the toy is in the form of a mans head having a bulbular forwardly .projecting nose portion B cut away on its underside to represent nostrils and having a; central ring portion B for the attachment of a draw string C. The element A is supported on a cross axle D having ground wheels E and E at its opposite ends representative of ears. Centrally the element A is cut away to receive an eccentric F mounted on the axle D to revolve therewith. Surrounding the eccentric is a strap portion G of a lower jaw member G which at its forward end has a ground wheel G The member G has a hook portion G contacting with the rear face of a portion A on the member A below the axle D. The arrangement is such that the rotation of the wheels E, E during the advancement of the toy will revolve the eccentric F projecting forward the jaw portion G and through the engagement of the hook G with the portion A rotating the member A clockwise (Fig. 2) thereby opening the mouth. A tongue H is secured to or formed integral with the upper portion of the jaw G 50 that the forward movement of the latter together with the rotation of the member A produces the efiect of sticking out the tongue. The toy is further provided with eyeballs I mounted on inwardly and downwardly inclined shafts I which at their rear ends have bevel gear wheels I in mesh with bevel gear wheels D on the shaft D. An iris I is painted on the surface of the eyeballs so that the rotation of the shaft I will produce the effect of rolling the eyes. A further feature is the provision of a dunce cap J mounted at the top and at one side of the head A, said cap having a ball J attached to one side thereof. The cap is connected with a downwardly extending laterally incline shaft K which has at its lower end a bevel gear wheel K in mesh with one ofthe bevel gear wheels I With the construction as described, when the toy is advanced by drawing on the string C, the mouth will be automatically alternately opened and closed, the lower jaw G' and tongue H advanced in the open position of the mouth and withdrawn in the closed position thereof, the eyeballs rolled and the cap revolved. This continues as long as the toy is in movement.
