FIGURE WHEELED TOY.
Application filed March 22', 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in toys and has for its main object the provision of a toy adapted to be drawn along the ground and having a figure pivotally mounted at the rear thereof, provided with arms connected to ground engaging wheels mounted at the front of the toy in a manner to cause the figure to oscillate on its pivot.
Another object of the invention is to pro- 1 vide a toy having a figure inside of a hollow box-like body and at the forward end thereof suitably mounted on a wheel connected to one of the forward ground engaging wheels to cause the figure to bob up and down in 15 the body on each revolution of the wheel.
7 A further object of the invention is the provision of eyes at the front of the toy and means for causing the eyes to roll or turn on their axis.
Further objects and novel'features of construction of my invention will become apparent and fully described as the specification proceeds.

Referring to the drawings in detail, a hollow box-like body portion 5 is mounted on front and rear ground engaging wheels 6, 7 and 8 respectively. At the rear of the toy on an extension 9 a sleeve or bushing 10 is provided, into which extends a pin 11 projecting downwardly from the body portion 12 of a figure 13 and fitting loosely in said sleeve. Arms 14 and 15 composed of arm sections 16 and wrist sections 17 are strung on resilient members or cords 18 secured at one end to the body 12 and having hooks 18 at their other end loosely associated with a crank pin 19 on the front wheels 6 and 7 the said front wheel 7 being revolvably mounted on a shaft 20 secured in a side wall 21 of the box 5 while the other front wheel 6 is loosely Serial No. 96,381.

To one side of the wheel 24 there is fastened a crank pin 26 having secured thereto a resilient connecting member 27 upon which is mounted. a figure 28 movably secured to the wall 21 by aresilient or elastic band 29. Eyes 30 protruding through openings 31 in a front wall 32 of the box 5 are provided on a shaft 33 journaled in the side walls 21 and 23, said shaft 33 being provided with a wheel 34 in contact with the front ground engaging wheel 6.
The operation of my improved toy is as follows As the toy is drawn along the ground by means of a string 35, the ground engagingwheels 6 and 7 will rotate carrying the crank pins 19 to which the arms 15 are connected, alternately pulling the arms forwardly and then pushing'them back to oscillate the figure on its pivot. As will be read- 7 ily seen this action is made possible by reason of the wrist portions 17 being sufiiciently long and rigid to transmit the motion imparted to it by the wheels tothe figure 13. The rotation of the wheel 6 will also cause the-wheel 34: which is in frictional contact with it, to revolve the eyes together with the shaft 33 upon which they are mounted. The
figure 28 is operated by the rotation of the wheel 24 to which it is connected, to move up and down through a hinged door 36 nor-v mally resting on the head of the said figure, and is guidingly held in proper alignment by the elastic band 29.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a toy substantially built, inexpensive in construction and one that will give amusement to children by the various antics it will go through when drawn along the ground.
My invention. in its broadest aspects, is not limited to the particular constructions shown, nor to any particular constructions or arrangements of parts by which it has been, or may be. carried into effect, since many changes and alterations may be made in the structures shown without departing from the principles of the invention and without sacrificing its chief advantages.
Having described my invention what I claim as new is- 1. A. toy adapted to be drawn along the ground having front and rear ground engaging wheels suitably mounted thereon, a figure pivotally mounted on the toy, a resilient arm on the figure, a more rigid wrist member at the front of the arm, and a pin eecentrically mounted on the said wheel associated with the arm to oscillate the figure when the toy is drawn along the ground.
2. A toy adapted to be drawn along the ground having front and 'rear ground en gaging wheels suitably mounted thereon, a figure pivotally mounted on the toy, a plurality of resilient arms extending from the figure, a more rigid wrist member on each of the said arns, and a pin eccentric-ally mounted on each of the front wheels associated ith the arms to cause the figure to oscillate when the toy is drawn along the ground.

In a toy of the nature described, having a body portion, front and rear ground engaging wheels, a shaft journaled in the body portion, eyes mounted on said shaft and protruding through openings in said body portion and a wheel on the eye holding shaft in engagement with one of the ground wheels to rotate the eyes when the to T is drawn alon the round.
4. In a toy of the nature described, having a body portion, front and rear ground engaging wheels, a shaft loosely journaled in the body portion on which one of the front wheels is loosely mounted, a friction wheel 011 said shaft, a pin eccentric-ally mounted on the friction wheel, a connecting rod on said pin,'a figure on the connecting rod adapted to be raised and lowered when the friction wheel is rotated, a resilient guide band associated with the figure. and
the body and a lid on the body adapted to be opened and closed by the up and down movement of the figure.
5. A toy adapted to be drawn along the ground having front and rear ground engaging wheels suitably mounted thereon, a figure pivotally mounted on the toy, a plurality of resilient arms on the figure, a more rigid wrist member on each of the arms, a pin eccentrically mounted on each of the front wheels associated with the arms, adapted to oscillate the figure when the toy is propelled, a shaft loosely journalled in the body portion on which one of the front ground engaging wheels is mounted, a friction wheel loosely mounted on said shaft, a pin eccentrically mounted on said friction wheel, a connecting rod associated with said pin, a figure on said connecting rod adapted to be raised and lowered when the friction wheel is rotated, a resilient guide band fixed to the figure and secured to the frame at its ends, a lid on the body adapted to be opened and closed by the second mentioned figure, a shaft journaled in the body, a plurality of eyes on said shaft protruding through openings in the body and a friction wheel fast on the said shaft in frictional contact-with one of the front ground engaging wheels adapted to rotate the eyes when the ground engaging wheel is revolved.
