This invention relates tocertain new and useful' improvements in paper containers for dynamite and of the type wherein two or more sticks of dynamite may be assembled inthe paper container to form a single charge. I
The primary object of the invention is to provide a paper container for dynamite wherein two or more sticks of dynamite maybe assembled to produce a single charge and in which the paper container is formed of interfitting end-connected sections that have interlocking connections with the dynamite sticks contained therein for securely holding the dynamite sticks against relative movements.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paper container for dynamite wherein the paper container is formed of interfitting end sections having a thread or like connection, with the male end of each section moved to a diameter less than the diameter of the remaining portion of the section when two sections of the paper container are assembled to provide an inwardly directed relatively wide annular shoulder on the paper container that interfits with an annularly reduced intermediate portion of a dynamite stick for holding the latter against sliding movements within the paper container.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of a paper container for dynamite constructed in accordance with the present invention, two dynamite sticks bein fragmentarily illustrated and partly in section as confined within the container,
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of one section of the paper container, partly broken away and shown in section,
Figure 3 is an end view of one of the container sections, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view show ing the split male end of a container section expanded to permit introduction of a dynamite stick thereinto.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a paper container for dynamite sticks wherein the container is formed of sections interfittingly connected at adjacent ends, each section being designated in general by the reference character 5 and preferably'. of cylindricalform. although the same could have' the intermediate body portion thereof polygonally formed. i
Theisection 5asclearly shown in Figure 2 has 'one end 6 thereof that will be hereinafter referred to as the female end, internally. threaded as at 'l, the end 6 being of the same diameter as the intermediate body. portion of the section 5.
The other endof the section 5 designated in general by -the-reference character 8 constitutes th'e male end and is pressed-or otherwise formed to: provide vatcylindrical end 9 of lesser diameter than the intermediate portion of the section 5. The male end 8 is longitudinally slit as at In in circumferentially spaced relation, with the slits extending a short distance as at Illa into the central body portion of the section 5 while the outer face of the end 9 is provided with a thread I I interrupted by the slits II).
It is intended to assemble two or more dynamite sticks in a series of end-connected paper container sections 5, and as shown in Figure 1, two such dynamite sticks are illustrated as assembled in three paper container sections, each dynamite stick being indicated by the reference character l2 and having a relatively wide annularly reduced neck I3 intermediate the ends thereof.
In placing a dynamite stick 12 in a paper con- I tainer section 5, the stick is preferably inserted into the female end 6 and the diameter of the dynamite stick I2 is substantially the same as the internal diameter of the paper section 5 to have slight frictional contact therewith. Upon continued movement of the dynamite stick into the paper section 5, one of the ends of the stick, as shown in Figure 4, will move into the split male end 8 to expand the same as shown in Figure 4 for passage of the end of the stick, further movement of the stick within the paper section 5 positioning the reduced neck portion l3 thereof in registry with the male end 8, whereupon the sections of the split male end 8 will close or move towards each other and into the annularly reduced neck I3. A second paper section 5 then has the female end I placed over the projecting end of the dynamite stick and moved into threaded engagement with the male end 8 and when fully threaded thereon the two end-connected paper sections assume the positions shown in Figure 1. The interfitting connection between the ends of the two paper sections 5 and their interlocking connection with the annularly reduced portion I3 of the dynamite stick l2 holds the latter against movements within the paper containers and also holds assembled dynamite sticks against relative movements. It will be understood that two or more dynamite sticks may be assembled in a paper container as described to form a single charge.
While there isherein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and -scope of "the, invention as --claimed 1.
