SKATE-FASTENING.
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 23,822, dated May 3, 1859.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHANDLER CHENEY, of Milford, in the county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skate- Fastenings for Securing Them to the Boot or Shoe; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan or top view. Fig. 2 is a side View, the same letters indicating the saine parts in each.
Wy improvements relate to the securing the back end of the skate to the heel so as to do away with the use of the heel straps mostly or entirely and consists in securing a plate or band A by its middle to the wood at B and bringing its elastic ends C C to the screws D D which hold them by screwing into the nut E which is fast to the wood orA top ot' the skate. This band A is made wide enough to have a good hold on the heel when put on or may have wings or projections up each side if preferred to steady the foot and its inside may be roughened to prevent slipping. Its operation is plain: to place the heel in the fband and turn the screws D D until a iirm hold is obtained and it is only necessary to secure the fore part as by the straps O, O, O7 to have the whole secure.
`What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Securing the back part of the skate to the boot or shoe by means ot' the spring band in connection with the screws or their equivalents when constructed and operating in the manner and for the purposes substantially as above set forth and described.
