PHILIP R. BLAGKFORD AND WILLIAM J. RENO, OF SAN ANTONIO,-MISSOURI.
FIELD-ROLLER.
SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent N0. 238,208, dated March 1, 1881.
Application filed October 16, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PHILIP R. BLAoKFoRD and WILLIAM J. RENO, of San Antonio, Buchanan county, Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Field-Rollers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to field rollers or crushers; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter specified.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a plan view with part of a roller broken away. Fig. 2 is a section lengthwise through the rollers.
A is a suitable frame-work, in which are hung the sash-frames B B. These frames consist of front and rear bars, a ct, of wood, and one end bar, 0, also of wood, and the other end bar, 0, of iron. The ends of bars 0 are turned in and bolted to the ends of bars a a, these latter being rabbeted to make a flush joint. These sash-frames are held in fram e-work A by connected eyebolts d e, fastening them by a swinging joint to the outside bar, 9, and the insidebar, h. At the corner of their inner ends these sash-frames are connected to the framework by chains n. Within these sash-frames are hung the crushing-rollers O G, the journals p 19 of said rollers bearing. in blocks 8 s.
As the device moves over the ground the rollers, by their swinging connection, accommodate themselves to the inequalities of the ground, the weighted inner ends oftheir frames causing them to turn down in that direction, and the chains preventing them from going too far.
We are aware that field-rollers have been provided with oscillating auxiliary frames, the ends of which formed the bearings for the rollers, and that in some instances the inner ends of said auxiliary frames have been formed of metal bars; and We do not desire to claim said constructions, broadly, but herein limit ourselves to the construction shown and described.
'Wha-t we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a field-roller, the combination, with the frame A, of the oscillating inner frames, B B, connected at their front and rear sides to the bars 9 and h of the frame A by the link-connections cl 6, and at their inner forward corners by eyes 6 and chains n, and having their inner ends made of iron, and the rollers O (J, journaled in the frames B B, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
