Pegging Jack.
-No. 238,027. Patented Feb. 22,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. CORNEAL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PEGGl NG-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,027, dated February 22, 1881.
Application filed J annary 13, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. CORNEAL, a citizen of the United States. residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pegging-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement on that class of pegging-j acks which are provided with a turn-table for holding the last and connected with a base-plate that is hinged at one side to v the bed-plate of thejack in such a manner as to be adapted to be turned on an angle therewith in one direction; and the nature of my invention consists in providing said parts with 'a hinge at their opposite side, also, so that the turn-table may be turned on an angle in either direction from the operator when the proper hinge for that purpose is detached and the opposite one used for the central pointfor bringing the table 011 an angle in the proper direction, as hereinafter fullydescribed.
In the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of a egging-jack representing my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of thejoint-rod 0.
Like letters of reference in all the figures indicate the same parts.
A represents the bed-plate of a turn-table, which is adapted to be fastened permanently to a table or bench.
Bis a base-plate for the turn-table. It is hinged at one side to the bed-plate A by means of thejoint-rod 0, connected with the lugs to a of the plate B and the lugs l) b of the bedplate A, whereby it is adapted to be turned in the direction of the arrow to bring the turntable D on the desired angle to the bed-plate in one direction, and it is held in its adjusted (No model.)
' base-plate B of the turn-table at its opposite side, also, with the bed-plate A by means of the rod G, lugs a a and b b to the opposite side of the bed-plate to that with which the rod 0 is connected, so that when the operator finds it more convenient to his work to have I the turn-table at an opposite angle to that produced when hinged with the rod 0, the latter rod may be withdrawn from its connection with the lugs a a and b b and the rod 0 connected with the lugs a a and b b; and hence the turn-table maybe reversed very expeditiously in its inclined position either way, right or left, to suit the convenience of the operator without unscrewing the bed'plate A from its connection with the bench or table, as with other pegging-jacks.
I claim as my invention- A pegging-jack having detachable hinged connections at opposite sides, substantially as described, whereby its turn-table may be turned on an angle from the bed-plate Ain one direction when one of these connections is used and the other disconnected, and vice "ersa, as set forth.
CHARLES H. CORNEAL.
