AUGUSTUS B. GOBURN, OF ROSEDALE, KANSAS.
DEVICE FOR FASTENING SAW-CLAMPS, 800.,T0 WORK-BENCHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,227, dated November 27, 1883.
' Application filed April 3, 1883. (No model.)
To (tZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS B. COBURN,
of Rosedale, Wyandotte county, Kansas, have invented'a new and Improved Attaching De vice for Saw-Clamps and other Tools,'of which the following is a full clear, and exact de scription.
My invention consists of an improved clamp device for attaching saw-clamps, vises, and other tools to the corners of work-benches, timbers, and other supports, the said clamp device being a block capable of sliding in inclined ways in the arm orbracket that rests on the bench, and a lever to draw it forward and downward to force pins or studs of the block into the wood, and at the same time to force other stud-pins of the tool into the side of the bench, making a simple and efficient attaching device, easily and quickly operated movable jaw, 0, attached to the upper end of s a lever, "D, which is pivoted' at e" to the arm 6". The lower end of the lever Dis bent upward to form a hook, and is engaged by apin on a lever, E, pivoted to the part c, for looking the jaws closed or open, about all of which there is nothing new. a is a block arranged to slide in inclined ways (shown by dotted lines I), Fig. 2, and partly in full lines, Fig. 1) of arms 0 of a saw-clamp projecting back over the top of the bench d from the bar or frame 6, that is to be secured to the side f of the bench or other support to which the saw- 45 clamp is to be attached, the said ways being so pitched that the block will descend when drawn forward and force stud-pins g, fitted in it, into the top of the bench, and for so moving it I connect it with an elbow-lever, h, so pivoted to the frame at i that down or back pressure on the lever will shift the block forward and engage the pins. The lever'also serves as a holding device to keep the block in place after being secured by swinging pivot-joint by which the rod 76 is connected to or below the line of the pivot 45, thus avoiding the necessity of using any special fastening for the lever. The bar eis also armed with stud-pins Z, which are at the same time forced into the side of the bench, making a simple and efficient means of connecting a saw-clamp to the bench which may be as readily disconnected by raising the lever to thrust out the stud-pins. I propose to fit these stud-pins to screw into their places, so that they may be readily set in as the points wear away, or be taken out for renewal when worn too short.
WVhile I have shown my improvement ap plied to a saw-clamp, yet it is evidentthat it is equally applicable to small vises and other tools.
l Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a saw-clamp or other tool provided with horizontal arms having inclined ways, of a block provided with pins sliding in saidavays, and an elbow-lever connected to said sliding block, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with the saw-clamp A,
provided with pins 9, the connecting-rod 7c,
and the elbow-lever h, substantially as herein shown and described.
AUGUSTUS B. C OBURN.
