To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY S. Roenas, of Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Boot and Shoe Shaver and Bead-Cut ter, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a combination tool for trimming the edges of boot and shoe soles and cutting beads thereon, and for cutting stripes on the bottoms of the soles.

The invention consists of a suitable handle carrying an adjustable slide having an adj ustable stripe-cutting knife attached, and carrying, also, an adjustable combined shave and bead-cutting knife.

In the drawings, A represents the handle of the tool, the central portion of which is enlarged, as shown at a, for the attachment of the combined shave and bead-cutting knife B O and their guard D, and is hollowed out, as shown at b, to permit free escape of the shavings from the boot or shoe sole. For convenience ofhandling and adjustment of the knives, one end, 0, of the handle A is extended on a plane with the top of the central portion, a, and the other end, (I, on a plane with the bottom of the central portion, a.

E is an adjustable slide, provided with a central longitudinal slot, j, which is held on the face of the handle end 0 by a screw, g, that passes through the slot f into the handle end 0. Said screw 9 is preferably a thumbscrew for convenience of handling.

F is an adjustable knife, provided with a slot, h, that is attached across the inner end of the slide E bya screw, '5, that passes through said slot h vertically into the said slide E. This knife F is designed for cutting stripes on the bottoms of boot and shoe soles, and it is adjustable at right angles to the slide E, its forward beveled end being protected by the guard k, that forms an offset on the side of the slide E, and is cutaway and grooved, as shown at l, to permit the free escape of shavings.

The cutting-edge or corner of said knife F is shown at m, extending slightly beyond the face of the guard 70.

' Secured on the upper face of the central portion, a, of the tool, by screwsn, that pass through its end slots, 0, is the combined shave and bead-cutting knife B O, the edge of which is protected and the depth of its out regulated by the guard D, that is secured to the front side of thetool-handle by screws pp, that pass through its slots q q into said handle. The outline of the upper edge of the guard D conforms with the cutting-edges of the shave and knife B O, and by means of the screws p 19- that, like all the other screws in the tool, are preferably thumb-screwssaid guard D can be raised or lowered to regulate the depth of the cuts made by said shave and knife B O. The shave B is to plane or shave the edges of the boot or shoe soles, and the slide E can be adj usted forward or back for exposing as much of the edge of the shave B as may be required for different thicknesses of soles. The knife 0 is for cutting the beads on the sole-edge, and may, as in this instance, form an integral part of the shave B, or maybe attached thereto in a suitable manner. The tool is applied to the sole Hot a boot or shoe, so that the shave and knife B O and knife F shall operate together in the manner shown in Fig. 1.

This tool is simple, durable, convenient, and easily kept in order, and convex or flat; or knives or any other desired shape can be used with it.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the combined boot and shoe shaver and beadcutter constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of handle A, combined adjustable shave and bead-cutting knife 13 O,and adjustable guard D, and adjustable slide E, provided with adjustable stripecutting knife F, arranged as set forth.

2. In a boot and shoe shaver and bead-cutter, the combination, with the adjustable slide E, of the adjustable stripecutting knife F, substantially as herein shown and described.
