SCIaims. o1.12s 249 This invention relates to improvements in eye cups.

The main objects of this invention are:

, First, to provide an improvedeye cup which is well adapted to be carried about by workmen and others for convenient use, the eyecup receptacle being, effectively covered or closed for protection and thestructure closing a chamber in which solution forming tablets or pellets may be carried; r 6

Second, to provide a structure having these advantages which is very compact when arranged for storage or carrying, the eye cup receptacle being protected by a closure so that it may be formed of glass if desired without likelihood of breakage. f

An eye cup which embodies the features of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawingpthe eye cup receptacle I isprovided with a suitably shaped rim 2 adapting the receptacle for use as an applicator. The bottom 3 of the receptacle I is of substantial thickness and is providedwith a downwardly opening upwardly tapered socket 4. This socket is adapted to receive the tapered stem 5 of the combined base and closure member B. This member 6 has an upper portion 1 cross sectionally shaped to fit within the receptacle when the base 7 is inverted thereon as shown in Fig.1.

The base has an upwardly facing flange-like peripheral portion 8, the upper face of which is conformed to lit the rim of the receptacle when the base is adjusted as a closure therefor. The portion 8 has upwardly curved parts 9 adapted to fit the downwardly curved parts of the rim of the receptacle. The base has a recess I0 in the bottom thereof adapted to receive the slidable closure II for the chamber I2 provided in the 6 base to open at the bottom thereof. With the base adjusted as a closure for the eye cup receptacle I it is effectively protected from dust and dirt, and workmen and others may carry the cup about in their pockets. The base when a closure also serves toform a protecting member by supporting the walls of the cup against inward pressure. ,IllWill also be noted tecting it from dust and dirt or any substance that is not readily wiped ofi.

The tablets or pellets I5, may bereadily carried in the chamber I2 and each one may be of deform one cup of solution; Of course, that may be dissolved in any convenient receptacle.

When assembled for use as an eye cup, asshown in Fig. 2, the structure as the conventional type of eye cup.

I have illustrated and in anembodiment which I considerhighly practical. Ihave not attempted to illustrate or describe modifications and adaptations which I contemplate as it is believed thisdisclosure will enablethe adaptation of the invention asmaybe desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;.

1. An eye cup comprising a receptacle having a socket in the bottom thereof and provided with ashaped rim adapting thereceptacle as an applicator, a combined base and closure member for said receptacle havin a stem detachably engagesaid receptacle when the base is inverted thereon, said base having a flange-like peripheral portion the upper surface of which is conformed to lit the rim of the receptacle when the base is adthe receptacle being in its closure position, said base having a chamber therein openingat the bottom thereof and adapted to receive tablets for forming solutions,

An eye cup comprisinga receptacle having a socket in the bottom thereof and provided with a shaped rim having concave portions disposed on the opposite sides of the receptacle adapting the receptacle as an applicator, a combined base and closure member for said receptacle having a stem detachably engageable with said socket and having an upper cross-sectionally-conformed-portion adapted to fit into said receptacle when the base is inverted thereon, said base having a flange-like peripheral portion, the upper surface I of which is conformed to fit on said concave portions of the rim of the receptacle when the base "is adjusted as a closure therefor, the receptacle able with said socket and having cross-sectionally-conformed-portion adapted to closely fit for a substantial distance into said receptacle when the base is inverted thereon, said base having a chamber therein opening at the bottom thereof and adapted to receive tablets for forming solutions, said base beingprovided with a closure receiving recess with undercut slideways at opposed edges thereof, and a closure slidable in said recess and slideways and disposed entirely within the recess when in closed position. 3
