This invention relates to containers in general and more especially to applicators for deodorante or the like.
Among the objects of the present invention, it
i is aimed to provide an improved applicator for deodorants or the like having an applicator head by means of which the contents may be applied with facility, Which head may be eectively secured in. place and Without the use of any adhevll'l sive or the like, and which head Will remain unaiected by the ingredients of the deodorant or the like contents.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved head and container 1B to serve as the applicator of a deodorant or the like, which head may be frictionally secured in place in the container, and Which container will accurately determine the position of the head not only to enhance the appearance of the resulting 0 applicator but also to insure the proper and standardized seating of the head in the container.
It is still another Yobject of the present invention to provide an improved container, head and closure to serve as the applicator of a deodorant or the like, which head may be frictionally secured in place in the container, which container will accurately determine the position of the head, and Which closure will cooperate with the head eiectively to prevent the loss of the deodorant when the closure is in place.
These and other features, capabilities and advantages of the invention will appear from the subjoined detail description of one specic embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of an applicator made according to the present invention with the closure shown in section;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmental section showing the head of the applicator in place with the closure removed; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. l.
In the embodiment shown, there is illustrated a Container l composed of any suitable material, such as glass which has a neck .2 provided with a thread 3 on the outer surface thereof and an annular recess 4 on the inner upper end thereof to form the annular shoulder 5.
There is provided a head for the neck 2 which consists essentially of a button 6 preferably cornposed of bakelite 'or such like material. This button 6 has a convex upper outer face 7, has a plurality of ne openings 8 formed therein and has extending from its lower plane face 9 a cylindrical collar l0, the outer diameter of the pe- 1933. riphery of which is less than the diameter of the outer periphery of the button 6. The outer diameter of the button 6 is greater than the diameter of the inner periphery of the neck 2 but less than the diameter or" the inner periphery of the vertical face 11 or the recess 4 so that the annular lower edge of the button 6 may fit snug- 1y in the recess 4 and rest on the shoulder 5 as indicated.
Surrounding the cylindrical collar 10, there is provided the annulus of cork or the like 12. The diameter of the outer periphery of this cork is preferably greater than the diameter of the inner periphery of the neck 2 so that the cork annulus 12 must be forcibly inserted into the neck 2 effectively to secure the button 6 and cork annulus 12 in the neck 2.
When a container 1 is provided with such a head, it Will appear that no adhesive substance, such as cement or the like is required thereby insuring a neat appearance and furthermore re ducing the cost of securing and assembling this head to the container 1 to a minimum.
A head composed of bakelite and cork as in the present instance, has the further advantage that it will remain absolutely unaffected by the ingredients oi' the standard deodorant.
The standard deodorant consists essentially of aluminum chloride in solution and as is Well known neither cork nor bakelite will be affected by such a solution.
It Will also appear that bakelite may be so finished, as for instance by the convex surface 7 of the button 6, that under no circumstances can the skin of the user be irritated or scratched by the use of this applicator.
It is of course obvious that applicators of this type depend upon capillary attraction for their action, the user taking the container 2 and rubbing the button 6 of the head against the skin to be treated when clue to capillary attraction a iilm of the deodorant will be drawn out of the perforations 8 on to the skin being treated.
The shoulder 5 of the recess 4 serves as a stop or abutment for receiving the edge of the button 6 whereby a standardized seating of the buttons 6 in the necks 2 of the bottles l may be eiected.
The thread 3 is provided to cooperate with the inner thread 13 of the closure 14 which is preferably also composed of bakelite. This closure preferably has an inner concave face 15 to receive the cork of the disc 16, Which cork disc in turn When the closure 14 is in place is adapted to rest on the outer face 'i' of the button 6 and thereby eiectively seal the perforations 8 of the button 6 and thus prevent the escape of any liquid through the perforations 8 when the closure 14 is in place.
It will thus appear that the applicator here produced is provided with a feeding device, consisting essentially of the button 6 which is composed of a substance such as bakelite or the like which will not only remain absolutely unaffected by aluminum chloride in solution or the like ingredients of a standard deodorant but that such feeding device neither alone nor in the presence of aluminum chloride in solution or the like ingredients of a standard deodorant will irritate or scratch the skin of the user.
It is obvious that various changes and modiflcations may be made to the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A three-piece deodorant applicator cornprising a container having a neck integral with said container, the neck having an annular recess at the inner outer edge thereof, a head having a perforated button and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, the button extending beyond said cylindrical collar to form a laterally extending annular flange, and a cork annulus snugly engaging the cylindrical collar of said head, the flange of said button resting in the recess of said neck and the cork annulus being frictionally forced into the neck of the container to form a liquid tight joint between said neck and said collar.
2. A deodorant applicator comprising a glass container having a neck, the neck having an annular recess at the inner outer edge thereof, a head composed of bakelite immune to any chemical reaction with the ingredients of the deodorant and having a perforated button the outer periphery of the button forming the treatment face of the deodorant and being finished to a smooth polished convex surface to protect the skin of the user from being irritated or scratched, and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, and a cork annulus disposed between the inner periphery of the neck of the container and the outer periphery of the cylindrical collar of said head to frictionally anchor the head in said neck, the button of said head resting in the annular recess of said neck.

The combination with a glass container having a neck, the neck having an annular recess at its inner outer edge forming an annular shoulder, of a bakelite head having a perforated button and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, the diameter of the outer periphery of the button being greater than the diameter of the inner periphery of the neck but less than the inner periphery of the annular recess in the neck so that the edge of the button may rest on the shoulder formed by said annular recess, the diameter of the outer periphery of the cylindrical collar being less than the diameter of the inner periphery of the neck, and a cork annulus disposed between said neck and said cylindrical collar, the cork annulus frictionally anchoring the bakelite head in said neck, the outer face of the button being convex and smoothly finished with the perforations of the button extending therethrough.
4. An applicator embracing a container and a feeding device having a perforated head Secured to said container, said head being ccmposed of bakelite or the like which will not react chemically or otherwise to aluminum chloride in solution or like ingredients of a standard deodorant and which will neither alone nor in the presence of aluminum chloride in solution or the like ingredients of a standard deodorant irritate or scratch the skin of the user, the outer periphery of said head forming the treatment face of the applicator and being nished to a smooth, polished convex surface disposed at a level beyond the outer edge of said container and having a perforated area affording discharge outlets for the contents of said container terminating in said smooth polished convex surface.
5. An applicator embracing a container and a feeding device having a perforated head secured to said container, said container and feeding device being composed of a substance which will not react chemically or otherwise to aluminum chloride in solution or the like ingredients of a standard deodorant and which will neither alone nor in the presence of aluminum chloride in solution or the like ingredients of a standard deodorant irritate or scratch the skin of the user, the outer periphery of said head forming the treatment face of the applicator and being nnished to a smooth, polished convex surface disposed at a level beyond the outer edge of said container and having a perforated area affording discharge outlets for the contents of said container terminating in said smooth polished convex surface.

A deodorant applicator comprising a container having an inner cylindrical surface disposed adjacent its mouth, a head composed of bakelite having a perforated button and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, the outer periphery of the button forming the treatment face of the applicator and being finished to a smooth, polished convex surface extending beyond the outer mouth edge of the container, and a yieldable annulus disposed between the inner cylindrical surface of the container and the outer periphery of the cylindrical collar of said head to friotionally anchor the head in said container.

A deodorant applicator comprising a container having an inner cylindrical surface disposed adjacent its mouth, a head composed of bakelite having a perforated button and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, the outer periphery of the button forming the treatment face of the applicator and being finished to a smooth, polished convex surface extending beyond the outer mouth edge of the container, and a yieldable annulus disposed between the inner cylindrical surface of the container and the outer periphery of the cylindrical collar 0f said head to frictionally anchor the head in said container, the perforations in said button extending through the portion of said button disposed inside of said cylindrical collar and affording discharge outlets for the contents of said container.
8. A deodorant applicator comprising a container having an inner cylindrical surface disposed adjacent its mouth, an annular recess in the inner outer edge of the mouth of said container, a head having a perforated button and an inwardly extending cylindrical collar, the outer periphery of the button forming the treatment face of the applicator and being finished to a smooth, polished convex surface disposed at a level beyond the outer mouth edge of said container, and a yieldable annulus disposed between the inner cylindrical surface 0f the container and the outer periphery of the cylindrical collar of Said head to frictionally anchor the head in place, the outer edge of the button of said head resting in the annular recess of said container to determine the position of said head at the mouth of said container.
9. A deodorant applicator comprising a con-A tainer having an inner cylindrical surface disposed adjacent its mouth, an annular recess in the inner outer edge of the mouth of said container, a head having a perforated button and an inwardly emending cylindrical collar, the outer periphery of the button forming the treatment face of the applicator and being nished to a smooth, polished convex surface disposed at a level beyond the outer mouth edge of said container,
