Application March 20,1943, Serial No. 479,931
1 Claim. (Cl. 131-175) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cigarette and cigar holders and more particularly to such a holder in which the cigarette is entirely enclosed and from which ashes cannot fall onto the clothes of the wearer.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a cigarette and clear holder in which a cigarette or cigar can be lighted without the flame of the igniting element being seen.
Other objects and advantage of the invention I will become apparent to the reader of the follow-' ing description.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the holder.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the holder.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a bottom'plan view of the holder I with the slide removed.
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of the mouthpiece.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a mouthpiece having a collar 6 protruding therefrom and around which is a stop shoulder 1. This collar 6 is adapted to be disposed in a tube 8 of plastic or any other suitable material in order to shelter a cigarette 9,
or in fact a. cigar. This smoking element 9 has it butt end disposed into a socket Ill protruding from the mouthpiece 5.
A perforated cap H is provided for the outer end of the tube 8.
The bottom of the tube 8 has a block l2 extending longitudinally thereof and having a slideway l3 therein for receiving a slide l4, it being observable in Figure 3, that the bottom of the block 12 has a narrow slot 15 therein through which a reduced portion I 6 of the block I4 is disposed, the bottom portion ll of the block l4 contacting the fiat bottom side of the block 12. One endof the slide M has a flanged head l8 prefer ably provided with corrugations [9 to prevent finger slippage. It will be noted that the block [4 and the head l8 are properly dimensioned to space'the same below the tube 8 sufiiciently to permit said block and head to clear the shoulder l on the mouthpiece 5.
Suitably secured to the bottom side of the tube 8 within the confines of the block [2 is a replaceable strip of'abrasive material 20 against which a match can be struck. Preferably the block I2 is provided with tongues l2 for supporting the side edges of the strip 20.
At the outer end of. the tube 8, the tube .is formed at its bottom side with an opening '2l.
It can now be seen that by grasping the head l-8 of the slide M, the slide can be moved toward the right in Figure 2. The slide can be removed apart into a number of pieces for the purpose \I of cleaning, dumping of ashes, etc.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the.
invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: I
A cigarette "and cigar holder comprising a mouthpiece adapted for the insertion of one end of a cigarette therein, a tube extending from the mouthpiece for enclosing the cigarette, a hollow structure on the bottom of the tube having a bottom slot for introducing a match into said struc ture, said tube having an opening communicating the interior of the tube-with the interior of the hollow structure whereby a cigarette may be lighted in the tube by a match introduced through said structure, a slldable closure for the hollow structure fitting in the same, and a match scratcher in the hollow structure disposed between I the closure and said tube for covering by the closure, said slidable closure being provided with a finger-engageable head.
