1 Claim.
This invention relates to an elastic collar clasp.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient means for mounting the springs of the device on the shanks of the jaw units, whereby a very useful device i produced.
Another object of the invention is the improvement of the' construction of the elastic collar holder disclosed in my Patent No. 2,331,625, issued October 12, 1943.
A still further object of the invention is the construction of a holder device of this typ in which the grips on the shanks perform a dual function, to wit: First, they hold the springs on the shanks, and second, afford the means by which the operator manipulates the jaws on the shanks.
With the foregoing and other objects in view,
my invention comprises certain novel construc-.
units in an extended position.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary, vertical sectional view of the device, shown in an extended posi'-.
tion.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the jaw units.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the tubular casing.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, l designates a tubular casingpwhich is provided in its bottom with an elongated slot 2. There are two jaw units, each comprising a long, straight shank 3, which is provided at its inner end with a depending right angled grip 4. On the outer end-oi shank 3 is jaw 5. Acoil spring 6 is mounted on shank 3 between grip 4 and jaw 5.
The grips 4 are normally together and extend throughslot 2. Therefore, it will be'seen that the grips perform a dual function, to wit: They hold the coil springs 6 on shanks 3 and also serve as the operating means whereby the manipulator can utilize the device.
It will be understood that the outer ends of the springs normally bear against the ends of the tubular casing l and when outward strain is exerted on jaws 5, the springs will be compressed, Fig. 5, and when strain, is relieved, the springs will move the grips inward until they are in engagement as shown in Fig. 3.
The placing of the device on the collar is clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of my Patent No.f2,331,625, hereinbefore referred to. i
The foregoing described construction of the tubular casing, jaw units and springs produce a very compact and durable structure, which is a decided useful and novel improvement over prior structures.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the' right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture, an elastic collar clasp, comprising a tubular casing, provided with partly closed ends, having also an elongated slot in its side, said slot having its ends near the ends of said tubular casing, a pair of jaw units, each jaw unit comprising an elongated shank, said shank slidably mounted on said partly closed end, said shank provided at its outer end with a jaw and at its inner end with a right angularly extending grip, said grip extending through the at their outer ends the outer ends of said tubular casing, and said springs engaging at their inner ends only said right angularly extending grips.
