This downspout, usually in the form of a frus tuml of a cone is shown as terminatingin a ter- The downspout 6 is usually made of a light sheet metal and the ring 1 serves to reinforce it. The bag filling spout of this invention is indicated generally at 8. It comprises a first member 9 and a secondmember II. The "first member 9 is secured to the terminal ring 1 and is usually fixed in position. It depends from the terminal'ring 'l with the outer face thereof arcuately formed and flowing smoothly down to a terminal lip at, 12 provided along the lower edge thereof. The inner terminal edge IA of member 9 slants outwardly and away from a vertical plane indicated generally by line iii-l5. The reason for this will become further apparent in connection with the detailed disclosure of of spout of this invention 1 as the material iscompletely fed into the bag.

In combination, a downspout, a bag filling spout, said bag filling spout comprising a'first and a second member, said first member being fixed on said downspout and extending below the terminal end of said downspout, said first member having its outer depending wall of arcuate section and extending substantially vertically to provide a relatively thin, fiat member with an arcuate terminal lip, the edges'of said terminal wall extending inwardly at an angle to a plane passed vertically through an upper portion of said member to provide said terminal lip at a distance spaced from said vertical plane, said second member being hinged on said downspout and having an outer depending wall of arcuate section, the radii of both said wall arcuate sections being relatively great so that said sections when closed provide cooperatively an element adapted readily to enter and open an end of a paper bag positioned for filling, said second member being hinged substantially on said vertical plane and having a substantial portion thereof normally lying on that sideof said vertical plane which is adjacent to the first member and complementary to said first member to provide a 1 closure for said downspout, said second member having a portion of its outer wall extending upwardly to a point above a horizontal plane passed through said hinge to provide a bias on said 15 second member toward closed position.
