Description

(Mom- 1.)
- J. R. KING. Calendar Inks'tand' No; 235,778. Patnted Dec. 21,4880.
INVENTOR:
PHDTO LITHOGRAPHR WASHINGTON, Cv
N. PETERS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAS R. KING, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
CALENDAR-INKSTAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,778, dated December 21, 1880.
Application filed August 16, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSIAS R. KING, of St. Paul, Ramsey county, State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Calendar-- lnkstand, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved calendar-inkstand, which is simple in construction, convenient in use, and serves as a perpetual calendar.
The invention consists in an inkstaud having the numerals of the days of the month arranged in a table on the front, whereas the names of the days of the week and of the months are arranged on the outer surfaces of two cylindrical ink-wells fitting into corresponding chambers of the stand, provided with a vertical slotin front to permit the names on the outer surfaces of the bottles to be seen.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved calendarinkstand. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on line x :0, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3 3 Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.-
The body of the inkstand A is provided with two vertical cylindrical chambers or apertures, B B having longitudinal slots 0 C in the front, as shown in Fig. 3.
Cylindrical ink wells or bottles D D are provided with a grooved rim, E, to prevent ink from flowing down the sides of the same,
and with covers that fit loosely into the said chambers and can be revolved in the same on the longitudinal axis. The names of the seven days of the week are arranged on the outer surface of one of the ink-wells-for instance, D-in seven vertical rows, each following row beginning with the next following day. The names of the months are arranged in vertical rows on the outer surface of the other inkwell, D and the number of daysin the month and the number of the month are given respectively at the bottom and top of each vertical row, as shown in Fig. 1. The numerals of the days of the month are arranged in the table J, between the slots 0 and O in four to five vertical rows, seven figures high, and corresponding in position to the names of the daysontheink-wellD. Apen-cleaningbrush, M, is attached to the stand between the inkwells D D and a groove, G, is cut in the base H, to serve as a pen-rack.
The calendar is used and adjusted as follows: The ink-well D is rotated until the name of the month desired shows in the slot 0 upon which theink-well D is rotated until the name of the day which is the first of the month shown in the slot 0 is in the top of the row of days shown in slot 0 and is opposite to the numeral 1 of the top of the first row of numeral's, indicating the day of the month. Then all the other days and numerals of the table J will correspond. The calendar thus obtained is perpetual, and need only be adjusted on the first of each month.
The inkstand and wells may be made of any suitable material, and may have the names and numerals fixed thereon in any suitable manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A calendar-inkstand made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of a stand having two vertical cylindrical longitudinally-slotted chambers containing cylindrical ink-wells having the names of the days and months fixed thereon, whereas the numerals of the days of the month are arranged on a table between the slots of the two chambers, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the inkstand A, of the ink-wells D D having the names of the days and months arranged thereon, the slotted chambers B and B and the table J of days of the month, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
J OSIAS R. KING.
