Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..l
SCOTT D.' JORDAN, OF CAPE ELIZABETH, AND WILLIAM A. CLARK, OF
' DEERING, MAINE.
PLATE OR STOVE-COVER RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,362, dated December 14, 1880.
Application filed August 5, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, SCOTT D. JORDAN, of Cape Elizabeth, and WILLIAM A. CLARK, of Deering, both in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Plate or StoveGover Rack, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the plate or stove rack with a section of the edge of the top ot' a stove; and Fig. 2 is a transverse and sectional view of the rack and a part of the top of a stove, taken on the line of w fc in Fig. l.
The object of our invention is to furnish an improved portable plate or stove-cover rack which may be held in atvertical positionon a wall, with plates resting on it beyond 'the reach ot' rats and mice; and, also, it may be suspended on the edge ot' a kitchen-stove to set the covers on while cooking-utensils are used on the stove.
It consists of a back piece to which are hinged a series of circular wire shelves, so constructed as to be unable to dropbelow a horizontal position relative to the vertical back piece, and at the same time be capable of being turned upward against the said back piece, and a socket with two arms with setscrews to be attached to the top of a stove, and a standard to receive and hold the rack, allot' which is hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, a is a back piece with a space in its upper end, by which it may be suspended upon a nail o1' hook in the desired place. Upon the two edges of the said back piece, a, are eyes d d d, with a half-circle and bevel from the back side of the back piece, a, for each ot' the eyes d al d, the said eyes so arranged as to have the casting of the back piece, a, made in such a Way that there will be an aperture in each of the eyes d d d without drilling.
The shelves l Z Z are formed of a single piece of wire bent into a circularshape, and having its ends bent ont from the circle, forming the parallels f g, and upward at right angles with the shelf, thus making a rest against the back piece, a, at r, and outward at right angles with the parallelsfand g, making the hooks h h, which secures the shelf l to the back piece, a, through the eye d, which shelf lis supported in a horizontal position by the two elbows on each end of it. When the shelf is constructed the two parallelsf and g are taken in thc hand and sprung toward each other until they can be hooked into the eyes d d. These shelves are to be arranged one above another on the back a in any desired number, and when not in use are to be turned upward against the back piece, a, or unhooked and put in any desired place, and thus occupy very little space.l
The back piece, a, is also provided with holes at i o, to receive the hook a and pin m ou the standard s, which hook a and pin m secures the said standard s to the back piece, a, by placing the said standard s at right angles with the back piece, a, and inserting the hook u into the hole t', and then swinging the said standard s around until the pin m springs into the hole o near the lower end ofthe back piece, a. The holesfi 0 should be countersunk on the t'ront side of the back piece, a.
The standard s rests in its socket k, which is attached to the stove e by placing the corner formed by the socket 7c and arm w against the edge of the stove e and adjusting the said socket 7a in a vertical position by the use of the set-screws c t, thus forming a fastening which will suit any stove.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plate or stove-cover rack consisting of the back piece, a, provided with the eyes d, the hinged shelves l, the standard s, and socket k, with the arm w, substantially as and for the purpose described.
