Description
(ModeL) A. KEARPUL. Buckle Attachment for Trace Clips. No. 234.784. Patented Nov. 23,1880.
5 Ji 0 y ,yjnessea; i iifla UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER KEARFUL, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
BUCKLE ATTACHMENT FOR TRACE-CLIPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,784, dated November 23, 1880.
Application filed September 3, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER KEARFUL, of St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Olip-Trace-Bnckle Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of the side "iew of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached view thereof; and also Fig. 3 is a detached View thereof, showing the clip and loop.
The object of my invention is to' provide a cheap and useful device for connecting the trace with the hame-tug, as hereinafter described, and more definitely pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A is the hametug. B is the trace. 0 is an ordinary loop. D is an ordinary trace-buckle. E is a stirrupshaped loop, composed of metal or other material, that passes through the main aperture of buckle 1), projecting far enough above to allow the trace B to pass through it. F is a clip, which is permanently riveted to the end of hame-tug, as shown. Said clip F is designed to couple the loop E with the hame-tug A, instead of skiving the tug and lapping it (ModeL) around the base-bar of the buckle and stitching it, as it is done on the old plan.
H is the tongue, formed on all similar buckles, to go through the trace.
The advantages of this improvement are, first, less length of leather is required for the hame-tn g, sixteen inches being sufficient, while on the old plan thirty-six inches are required; second, less labor is required in its construction; third, a smoother and more durable job of Work can be done with the trace-clip-buckle attachment than by the old plan fourth, there is less wear and tear of traces by this plan, the strain being divided between tracebuckle-tongne H and loop E, While on the old plan all the strain is on the tongue H, and said tongue being small, the tendency to cut the leather under heavy draft is very great.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as my invention, is-- The combination, with ahame-tug, of the clip F riveted thereto, loop E, and buckle D, adapted to receive and hold the trace, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed mynaine in the presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER KEARFUL.
Witnesses CALEB MUssEE, GEo. M. IRWIN.
