This invention relates generally to improvements in rgarments and has particular reference to novel features of construction and arrange ment in overalls for mechanics, army tank` operators, and other workers who are engaged in classes of work wherein front portions of working garments such as overalls are subjected to severe Wear.

" One of the objects of my invention is to provide overalls which shall afford comparatively long4 wear under severe working conditions and which overalls shall be of a fabric base construction and provided with leather or other wear-resisting material applied. to the front portions and seat portions thereof to resist wear. but which wearresisting and protective material -shall be so applied to and arranged on the fabric base` that the body movements f the wearer will be affordedk the desired freedom to securevv the desired comfort.

Another object 0f my invention isy to provide overalls for heavy duty work and the use of which shall result in a desired economy and saving' in maintenance due to my improved wear-resisting protective sectional covering which is so arranged upon the fabric base that the protective wearresisting sectional covers are sewed, Aor otherwise secured, to the base fabric with suitable spaces between such cover sections disposed at the bending lines located suostantally at the wearers from the sides of the free depending knee por-4 tions of the protective covering to the back of the knees.

Another object of my invention is found in the provision, in this type of overall of protective leather sectional coverings which are reduced to the minimum in area to add to the comfort of the wearer and to lower the cost of manufacture but without loss of the desired wear-resisting feature and wherein the abdominal wear-resisting section is provided with a suitable belt or strap portions to provide more comfort during the bending of the body of the wearer.

Still another feature of my invention resides in the provision of fabric reenforcing strips disposed on the inner face of the base fabric alongthe spaced portions of the protective sectional covers and'which fabric reenforcing strips are secured to the base fabric by stitching or riveting same simultaneously with the securing `of the marginal edges vof the protective sectional cover."

A further objectof my invention resides in the inward bending of the marginal edge portions of the protective sectional covers at theiry adjacent spaced sides so thatsuch marginal edges are folded between the covering andthe outer face of the'base fabric and sewed or'otherwise secured to the base fabric as illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawing.

A further object of myinventionis to'provide the garment, or overalls, with wear-resisting sec# tional covers which are removably secured tothefabric base by securing meansof the zipper type. u

VAnother object of my invention' is' to provide portions of theleather covered` partsofv the garment with a plurality' of suitably spaced eyelec` rivets for the dual purpose of'providing addi-k tional resis'tance to wear and also'providing ventilation to enhance the comfort'feature of my invention.

With the above and other objects in` View, my invention consists in the novel4 combinatiomconstruction and arrangement `of the protective sectional covers and portions of the garment shown in preferred embodiment inthe attached drawing, described inthe following specification and particularly pointed out in the appended claims;

My invention includes any suitable standard type of overall of fabric generally indicated b'y numeral Il] and bythe cross-hatching indicating the woven fabric base, and comprises the chest portion 1I, the leg portions i2, preferably provided with cuffs I3, and the abdominal portion I4 between the chest and leg portions.

Side pocketsare indicated by I5 and rear or hip pockets by I6. The Suspenders are indicated by I'I. y

The fabric chest portion II is covered with a leather or other suitable wear-resisting cover The top side |9A of the abdominal cover section v I9 is parallel to but spaced from the bottom side I 8B of the chest cover section I8 and the space between them is indicated by X; The inner face of the fabric base at the bending space X is preferably provided with a` fabric reenforcing strip 22 extending the full length of the A-top side I9A and this strip is stitched to the fabric base and themarginal portions of the chest cover section I8 andrabdominal cover section I9.

To enhance comfort and to facilitate the proper bending along the bend lines X at the upper-and lower marginal sides ofthe abdominal cover section I9,"this`cover'section is preferably provided with an abdominal' belt having Ystrap portions 2-1 secured to the opposite end portions of the cover section I9 and provided with ya suitable buckle 28 for adjustably tightening' suchV abdominal belt.

The two protective cover sections 2| :for'the legs are provided with upper ends 2|A disposed parallelly tothe groinmarginal edge I9B of the abdominal cover section |9 but spaced therefrom as at X. At their inner upper ends, the covers 2| are cut angularly downwardly inwardly as at 2|B to eliminate any possible ybinding at the crotch 20.

The cover sectionsv 2| are preferably secured at their upper -endsto, the fabric base as by sewing or riveting along the margins ZIA' and 2|B and along their. sides to points Z withinz7 or 3 inches above the knee` portionsv ofthe garment. The sides LIJ and 2ID of the leg portions vof the cover section 27| are disposed substantially on the vertical center line of the sideof the fabric leg portion.

A reenforcing fabric strip 22 may preferably be provided on 'the' inside face of the fabric base along the space at the groin lines between the parallel adjacent margins ofthe abdominal and leg cover sections. Y K

The lower end and side portions of the leg cover sections 2|, extending below the knee are not attached to the fabric. base, however, to preventflopping of such loosely hung vend portions, each leg cover section 2| is provided with a strap 23 having a buckle 24 whereby same may be adjustably retained below the knee.

To prolong the wear of my improved garment the same may. be provided with a suitably shaped cover section 25V forV the garmentvseat portion which is stitched or otherwise secured to the fabric base.

To further enhance the utility, durability and comfort of my improved garment, the same may be provided with suitably spaced eyelet rivets 26 as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 6. These eyelet rivets 26 may also be used to secure the protective cover sections I8, I9 and 2| to the base fabric instead of stitching same thereto or such sections I8, I9 and 2| may be detachably secured to the fabric base as by securing means known as the zipper type of fastening. The eyelet rivets may be arranged in any suitable manner over the areas of the protective covers to provide not only additional resistance to wear but a very desired means of ventilation.

The marginal side portion of a cover section which lies adjacent to a spaced side portion of another cover section may be bent and folded inwardly to lie between itself and the fabric overallbase and such inwardly bent portion may be stitched to-the overall fabric. is shown in Fig. 5 and conceals the marginal se curing stitches.

It is obvious that slight changes in the basic shapes of the protective cover sections IIB,l I9 and 2| may be readily made without departing from the spirit of my invention defined in the appended claims wherein I intend to claimmy invention as broadly as the state of the art permits.

' I.claim:

1. A unitary garment of fabric having a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions, including separate protective cover sections of a Wear-resisting material different from the garment fabric secured to each of said garment portions, the. marginal edges of the abdominal protective cover section being slightly spaced from the adjacent margins of the chest and .legi

protective cover sections, said spaced marginal edges of said sections being disposed along' the linesof fleXure between said portions of the body of vthe garment user, said cover sections for said leg portions being secured to the overall fabric at their upper ends and along their sides to a distance' above the knee sections thereof whereby the lower end portions of said leg cover sections have free movement independent of the lower end portions of the garment legs, and an adjustable strap for each of said leg covers ex'- tending from the sides thereof to the back of the leg.

2. A unitary garment of fabric having a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions, including separate protective cover sections of a'wear-resisting material different from the gar-4 ment fabric secured to each of said garment portions, the marginal edges of the abdominal protective cover section being slightly spaced from Y the adjacent margins of the chest and leg protective cover sections, said spaced marginal edges of said sections beingdisposed along the lines of flexure between said portions of the body of the garment user, said chest and abdominal cover sections having marginal edges sewed to the fabric base, the cover sections for said leg portions sewed to the overall fabric at their upper ends and along their sides to a distance above the knee sections thereof whereby the lower end portions of said leg cover sectionsl havefree movement independent of the lower end portions of the garment legs, and fabric reenforcing strips on the inner side of the garment fabric sewed to the garment fabric and -to the 'I'his construction protective cover sections along' the space between marginal ledges of the chest and abdominal cover sections and between the marginal edges of the abdominal cover section andthe upper marginal edges of the legl cover sections.

3. A unitary overall garment of fabric. comprising a, chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions, a separate protective cover section of wear-resisting material secured to said chest portion, a separatecover section of wearresisting material secured to said abdominal portion, and separate cover sections of wear-resist ing material secured to the upper ends of said leg portions, said chest cover section extending to a slightly` spaced distance from the vupper marginal edge of said abdominall cover section' at substantially the waistv line and the lower marginal side `of said abdominal cover section being disposed in a V-shape line along the groin lines, the upper marginal edges of said leg cover sections being disposed angularly downwardly inwardly in'parallel alignment with but spaced from said V-shaped lower margin of said abdominal cover section, said cover sections for said leg portions each having an angularly cut upper inner corner to extend outwardly of the crotch portion of the garment, said leg cover sections being secured to the garment fabric at their upper ends and downwardly along their sides to a distance above the knee sections thereof whereby the lower end portions of said leg cover sections have free movement independent of the lower end portions of the garment legs, and reenforcing strips on the inner side of the garment fabric secured to the garment fabric and to the protective cover sections along the space between marginal edges of the chest and abdominal cover section and the upper marginal edges of the leg cover sections.

A unitary overall garment of fabric comprising a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions, a separate protective cover section of wear-resisting material secured to said chest portion, a separate cover section of wearresisting material secured to said abdominal portion, and separate cover sections of wear-resisting material secured to the upper ends of said leg portions, said chest cover section extending to a slightly spaced distance from the upper marginal edge of said abdominal cover section at substantially the waist line and the lower marginal side of said abdominal cover section being disposed in a V-shape line along the groin lines, the upper marginal edges of said leg cover sections being disposed angularly downwardly inwardly in parallel alignment with but spaced from said V-shaped lower margin of said abdominal cover section, and a plurality of spaced eyelet rivets in each of said chest, abdominal and leg cover sections for securing same to the garment fabric and providing ventilation therethrough.

A unitary garment comprising an overall of fabric having side pockets and a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions; a protective cover of leather secured to said chest portion and extending from the top of said chest portion to the waist line; a protective cover of leather secured to the abdominal portion, said abdominal protective cover having an upper margina1 edge spaced from the bottom marginal edge of said chest cover, sides extending to the openings of said side pockets and a bottom marginal edge cut V-shaped to lie in proximity of the groin section of the overall; and protective leather covers for the lcgportionsVA of the overall yextending substantially a spaced distance from said l V- shaped edge ofi. said abdominalcove'r to substantially midway between the knee and they lower ends of the overall legs, said covers for saidleg portions each 'having an angularly cut upperfinner corner extending outwardly of the crotch portion ofthe overall, andsaid leg covers being secured tothe overall fabric at the upper ends and downwardly along their sides to a distance above the linee'se'ctions thereof whereby the lower'` end portions of said leg covers have free move ment independent of the lower end 'portions of the overall fabric legs. 1

6. `A unitary Vgarment comprising an overall of fabric having side pockets anda chest portion, an abdominaliportion andleg portions; a protective cover of leather secured to said chest portion and extending from the top of said chest portion to the waist line; a protective cover of leather secured to the abdominal portion, said abdominal protective cover having an upper marginal edge spaced from the bottom marginal edge of said chest cover, sides extending to the openings of said side pockets and a bottom marginal edge cut V-shaped to lie in proximity of the groin section of the overall; and protective leather covers for the leg portions of the overall extending substantially a spaced distance from said V-shaped edge of said abdominal cover to substantially midway between the knee and the lower ends of the overall legs, said covers for said leg portions each having an angularly cut upper inner corner extending outwardly of the crotch portion of the overall, and said leg covers being secured to the overall fabric at the upper ends and downwardly along their sides to a distance above the knee sections thereof whereby the lower end portions of said leg covers have free movement independent of the lower end portions of the 'overall fabric legs; reenforcing strips on the inner side of the overall fabric secured to the overall fabric and protective covers along the space between marginal edges of the chest and abdominal covers and between the marginal edges of the abdominal cover and the upper marginal edges of the leg covers; and detachable means along the marginal edges of each of said chest, abdominal and leg covers for detachably securing said covers to the overall fabric.

'1. A unitary overall garment of fabric comprising a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions, a separate protective cover section of wear-resisting material secured to said chest portion, a separate cover section of wearresisting material secured to said abdominal portion, and separate cover sections of wear-resisting material secured to the upper ends of said leg portions, said chest cover section extending to a slightly spaced distance from the upper marginal edge of said abdominal cover section at substantially the waist line and the lower margina1 side of said abdominal cover section being disposed in a V-shape line along the groin lines, the upper margina1 edges of said leg cover sections being disposed angularly downwardly inwardly in parallel alignment with but spaced from said V-shaped lower margin of said abdominal cover section, and a belt having strap portions secured to the marginal side portions of said abdominal cover section.

8. A unitary garment comprising an overall of fabric having side pockets and a chest portion, an abdominal portion and leg portions; a protective cover of leather secured to said chest por* tion and extending from the top of said chest portion to the waist line; a -protective cover of leather secured to the abdominal portion, said abdominal protective cover having anupper marginal edge spaced from the bottom marginal edge of said chest cover, sides extending to the openings of said side pockets and a bottom marginal edge cut V-shaped to lie in proximity of the groin section of the overall; and protective leather covers for the leg portions of the overall extending substantially a spaced distance from said V-shaped edge of said abdominal cover to substantially midway between the knee and the lower ends of the overall legs, said covers for said leg portions each having an angularly cut upper inner corner extending outwardly ofthe crotch portion of the overall, and said leg covers being secured to the overall fabric at the upper ends and downwardly along their sides to a distance above the knee sections thereof whereby the lower end portions of said leg covers have free movement independent of the lower end portions of the overall fabric legs; reenforcing strips on the inner side of the overall fabric secured to the overall fabric and protective covers along the space between marginal edges of the chest and abdominal covers and between the marginal edges of the abdominal cover and the upper marginal edges of the leg covers; detachable eyelet rivets spaced along the marginal edges of each of said chest, abdominal and leg covers for providing ventilation through such rivets and for detachably securing said covers to the overall fabric; and a belt having strap portions secured to said abdomina1 cover sides.
