SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,958, dated November 2, 1880. Application filed March 10, 1880. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT S. WETMORE, of Cleveland, countyof Guyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Vibrating Letter-Advertising Device, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for advertising; and has for its object to produce a business-card in which each letter of the advertise- LO ment is separately or independently attached to a delicate spring, whereby said letters Will be given a vibratory movement, induced by thejarring movements of the body to which said letters may be attached. It is designed,

I 5 principally, to attach the card or advertisement so constructed to clocks, and said clocks to be placed in street-cars or other moving vehicles, the movements of which shall impart to the said letters a constant vibration by the jarring of the said vehicle, the result being a novel device to attract the attention.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a clock having a card composed of letters attached to and surround- 2 ing it, as before mentioned. Fig. 2is a detached view of one of the aforesaid letters.

A is a circular clock of the usual pattern. Surrounding said clock is a ring, B, supported by arms C 0, attached to the sides of the clock- 0 case and holding said ring a suitable distance therefrom, and attached to the ring are a suit- I able number of arms, D D, in radial lines, to accommodate the number of letters required I to constitute the advertisement. Upon the i ends of said arms D D are fixed delicate springs d d, to which the letters are attached in the manner seen in Fig. 2.

It will be seen from the foregoing that when the clock is placed permanently against the wall of a street-car or other moving vehicle the said letters have a constant vibratory nio- I tion, caused by the jarring of the clock by the movements of the car.

The arrangement of the letters may be varied to suit various circumstances, and may or may not be attached to a clock, or the letters might be attached to rigid arms Without springs; but itis preferable to construct them as represented and described.

Having described my invention, I claim- The combination and arrangement of letters with light springs d, said springs being attached to arms D, which are rigidly attached to a ring, B, said ring being attached to the clock A, for imparting to the letters a vibratory movement produced by a jarring force, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
