Application June 23,1943, seria`11vo.491,9s3 v l (crei- 12erVv 1` Y,
2 Claims.
This invention relates to plows and is designed more expecially as an improvement upon the structure disclosed in Patent 1,616,398, issued to me on February1,.1927.
In the structure disclosed in said patent a plurality of fastening means have been required for the purpose of holding together the point, the wear plate and the blade and these have fre- `quently loosened so as to necessitate repair. Furthermore the parts have not been held together as securely as desired.
An object of the present invention is to provide a means whereby a single bolt can be employed for fastening together the point, plowshare, shearing Wing or blade and landside, another single bolt being all that is required to hold these parts to the moldboard.
A further object is to provide the parts of a plow with means whereby they can interlock so as thus to be held against separation unless the main fastening means or bolt is removed.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the
invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described andh pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
In the accompanying drawing the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of a portion of a plow showing the present improvements combined therewith.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan View of the structure shown in Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3, Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4, Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5, Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a section on line 6--6, Figure 1.
Figure '7 is a section on line `I-I, Figure 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, I designates a portion of a moldboard reenforced along its landside edge by a depending longitudinal rib 2 while extending into its upper surface from Vthe opposite edge is a socket 3 opening through the bottom of a recess 4 formed in the moldboard and extending back to a shoulder B in the moldboard. A plowshare 1 having a y landside 8 is fitted snugly upon the upper side of the moldboard against shoulder 6 and a longitudinol flange 9 is located along that side of the plowshare remote fromthe landside, this flange being interrupted at the socket 3 and also yterminating back from the forward end of the vplowshare. f A tongue I0 extends forwardly from the' landsid and plowshare and removably seated against the edge II of the plowshare and on the flange 9 is the inner or back edge portion of a cutting blade or wing I2. This blade has a tongue I3 extending laterally therefrom and adapted to be seated in the pocket 3 in the moldboard where it will be retained by the plowshare against displacement laterally. An inturnedlip 3 on `the moldboard laps the tongue I3 and prevents displacementy outwardly in the direction of the length of the tongue.
The forward end of the blade I2 is flush with the forward end of the plowshare as will be noted by referring to Fig. 1 and these two ends are adapted to project into and be straddled by a fork I4 projecting backwardly from a point I5. The fork is formed of two oppositely disposed ears having openings I6 therein and extending into the point at one side of the ears is a socket I'I proportioned to receive the tongue Ill and fit snugly thereto. The point I5 has a wall or abutment I8 at one side of the socket I'I and between the ears constituting the fork I4 and when the point is in position engaging the plowshare 1 and the blade I2, said plowshare and the blade will have their forward ends abutting against the wall so as to t snugly. This abutment wall I8 is extended along a line which-converges laterally towards the center line of the tongue I3, as will be obvious by referring for example to Figs. 1 and 2. Consequently if the tongue I3 is seated snugly inthe socket 3 and the abutment wall I8 is fitted snugly against the adjacent ends of the plowshare 1 and the blade I2, said blade and plowshare cannot be separated because the walls of the socket 3 would not provide suicient clearance for the removal of the tongue I3.
The point is adapted to be held in snug engagement with tongue I0 and the ends of the plowshare and blade by a bolt I3 inserted transversely through the openings I6 and through the plowshare. With these parts all held together it becomes impossible to separate them unless the bolt is first removed. Thus the use of supplemental rivets, bolts or the like is obviated. A second bolt 20 is employed for fastening the plowshare onto the moldboard, thus maintaining it snugly thereon and against stop shoulder 6. By removing this bolt 20, the plowshare and the parts connected thereto can be instantly disconnected from the moldboard. These parts,
tongue extending forwardly from the plowshare,.
a point having a wall abutting against the forl ward ends of the blade and plowshare and having 1 a socket for the reception of the tongue on the plowshare, ears extending from the point and and means for attaching the moldboard to the plowshare.
2. 'I'he combination with a moldboard, a plowshare fastened thereto, and flanges extending laterally from the plowshare, there being a recess in the moldboard and under the plowshare intersecting the anges, of a tongue extended forwardly from the plowshare, a blade supported by the flanges and abutting against the plowshare, said blade and plowshare having alined forward ends, a point having a fork straddling said ends of the blade and plowshare and having an abutment Wall extended along a line converging laterally toward the center line of the recess in the moldboard, there being a tongue extended laterally from the blade and seated snugly in the "recess, said tongue and the forward end of the cooperating to constitute a fork straddling 4the l front end portions of the blade and plOWshare,
blade cooperating with the walls of the recess andthe abutment wall respectively to hold the blade against lateral separation from the plowshare when the point is tted against the blade land plowshare, means for securing the Apoint to the plowshare, and a forwardly extended tongue on the plowshare removably seated in the point.
