UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN CONRAD, OF BURLINGTON, IOWA.
GATE ROLLER AND HINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,476, dated October 19, 1880.
Application filed August 16, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN CONRAD, of Burlington, Iowa, have invented a new and useful Gate Roller and Hinge, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l. represents a side elevation of ade vice embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 represents an end View of same. Fig. 3 represents a vertical central section of device shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts.
Myinvention is intended to secure a strong durable gate-roller which will turn freely to either side and will' at the same time be firm I accomplish this by means of the devices hereinafter set forth and described.
1n the drawings, Ais a Wrought-iron guide frame in a single piece, bent at the bottom so that the sides will form the parallel uprghts a a', which are journaled to secure the axle of acast-iron roller, B.
The frame A rests upon a projecting arm, D, screwed horizontally into an upright post. The flat bottom of the frame A is perforated at b to receive and permit the passage of the tapbolt C, which also passes through the end of thc arm D, and is then screwed into the threaded perforation d in the band of a double iiange, E, made in one piece, which serves as an inlmovable nut, and at the same time tits closely down over the edge of a board to stead y and hold firm the entire device, the board being directly beneath the projecting arm D. Thus, when the hinge and roller are lixed to the gate post by screw D, the gate can have a free horizontal swinging movement on the tap-bolt C, While it Will have free sliding movement on the roller B, upon Which one of its bars will rest.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The frame A, having roller LB journaled therein, combined With screw-threaded arm D and ange E by the tap-bolt C, which acts as a hinge on which the parts can be moved, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN CONRAD.
