1 Claim. (Cl. 18931.4)
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fence posts and more particularly to a post such as is used at the corner of fence lines.
The principal object of the present invention o is to provide a fence post of durable and rein- 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 5--5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the brace bars.
Figure '7 is a perspective view of one of the base bars.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that,
the post comprises a vertically disposed angle post 5 sharpened at its lower end as at 6 so that the lower portion thereof can be driven into the ground. The post has a plurality of lugs or fastening members 1 thereon for fastening fence wire 8 in place. 7 g
Numerals 9, 9 denote a pair of base members of angle construction, each at one end, having a top flange a removed to accommodate one of the flanges of the posts 5 to which it is secured by securing means l0, and in this manner the base members 9 are right angularly disposed as shown in Figure 2.
The base members 9 each has one flange horizontally disposed to define a rest for the corresponding ends of bridge members II which are also of angle construction, these bridge members ll being secured to the top flanges of the base members 9 by welding or other means I2.
Numerals l3 denote inclined brace members each of angle construction and each having its upper portion reduced one flange so that it can be bolted as at M to the corresponding flange of the post 5, members [3 are secured to the outer end portions of the base members 9, as'clearly shown in Figure 3 by bolts l5.
It can now be seen, that when the post 5 has been driven into the ground as shown in Figure 1, and the base members 9 are resting upon the ground, the jack can be further anchored in place by piling rocks or other weight It on the bridge members It,
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted towithout departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
A corner fence post structure comprising an angle iron post having a lower end sharpened for driving into the ground, a pair of base bars extending laterally from the lower end portion of the post in right angular relation for resting on the ground, said bars being of angle iron with one flange thereof disposed uppermost and flatwise and cut away at one end thereof to form a flat extension of said end, said extensions being secured flat to the post, a plurality of angle iron cross bars superposed on said base bars flatwise and bolted at one end thereof to said invention, what is base bars in parallel spaced apart relation to brace said base bars and form a grid for rock ballast disposed thereon and a pair of diagonal brace bars also of angle iron having flat upper end extensions secured flatwise against the upper end of the post upon opposite sides thereof, and rear ends secured flat against the inner side faces of the base bars between two adjacent cross bars.
FRANKLIN W. TAYLOR.
The lower ends of these brace,
