NITED STATES AIENT OFFICEQ JOHN E. JERROLD, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOIt TO H. (J. DARBY, ()F WYANDOTTE, KANSAS.
CROWN-SH EET SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,824, dated October 5, 1880.
Application filed February 16, 1880.
10 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN E. JERROLD, of Kansas City, county of Jackson, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (Jrown-SheetSupports for Steam- Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved support for the crown-sheet of the steam-boiler.
Hitherto it has been the custom to support the crown by a system of bars, or by arched plates resting on the flue and back sheets on the line where same are riveted to the crown, thus necessitating a treble seam at the point of attachment, which is objectionable.
My invention dispenses with the use of a separate plate for the support, but provides for the continuation of the side sheets beyond the line where same are riveted to the crown, and joining them by means of rivets in the form of an arch above the crown-sheet.
In the drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is alongitudinal section of the fire-box, showing the arched support. Fig. 2is a transverse section of the same, showing side sheets and spring of the arch formed by joining the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the crown sheet and arch; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section of arch, showing manner of attachment to crown.
In the drawings, 0 is the crown-sheet of the fire-box. S and S are the side sheets, which are carried above their line of attachment with the crown-sheet, forming an arch above it, as shown in drawings. B B B, &c., are staybolts connecting the arch with crown-sheet. L L L, &c., are crow-feet or lugs riveted to the arch, for the purpose of attaching braces between it and the boiler.
What I claim as my invention is- The arch formed by the continuation of the side sheets above their line of attachment with the crown, substantially as described.
