This invention relates to improvements in gloves adapted to be used by soldiers or hunters and others who require the full use of the fore or index finger for triggering a riile as well as for other types of work for which this glove can be adapted. 'Y

Therefore, an important object ofthe invention is to provide a glove or mitten having an index nger covering superimposed upon the palm adjacent the crotch formed by the thumb covering so that the wearer can, when he so desires, insert his forefinger therein and thereby have full control and use thereof.

Another object of the invention is to attach or secure the forenger covering to the palm in such a manner that the lower end of the forenger covering will be secured to the upper edge of the glove and the upper end of the foreiinger covering will lie in the crotch formed by the palm and thumb covering, that is, the nger covering will be in an inverted position, thereby permitting the forenger covering to lie ilat against the palm and be held in place by the thumb covering when not in use. v

In al1 previously known gloves or mittens that have been used by soldiers and hunters and the like, an opening has been provided in the palm to promote the eiciency of the wearer in triggering his weapon but many diiiiculties have arisen in these types of hand coverings due to the fact that it has been diliicult to devise means for fully closing the opening in order to protect the wearers hands in severe weather.

Since it is an important feature of any glove or mitten of this type to keep the wearers hands protected as well as to permit unobstructed use of the foreiinger where the handling of weapons is concerned, it is thought that the present invention far surpasses any previously-known gloves that have been used for the above purpose.

While it has not been shown, an inner glove may be used or a lining may be incorporated in the glove to add extra protection to the wearers hand in extremely cold climates and in this manner the utility of the glove is preserved; at the same time the wearer is insured of suiiicient proteetion against the weather.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of features of construction, arrangement and operation of erences in the several figures indicate identical I parts:

Fig. 1 represents the improved glove in elevation looking on the palm side showing the forefinger covering in the raised or used position.

Referring t0 the drawing by numeral, I0 indicates the improved glove, which can be formed of any water-repellant material or the like, the palm being reinforced by means of a layer Il of leather or the like to resist hard service and to promote longer wear. This layer II also ex- Ilzfnds and covers the inner surface of the thumb The real feature of the invention is the inverted finger covering I3 which will permit the wearer to trigger his weapon and permit free use of the foreiinger for others engaged in work that requires the free use of the index nger. 'I'his is accomplished by securing the lower or open end of the covering I3 to the upper or outer edge of the glove while the upper or outer end of the finger will end in the crotch I4 formed by the palm and thumb of the glove I0. The finger covering I3 thus constructed will normally lie flat against the palm and be held in place at the crotch I4 of the glove by the thumb I2. The nger covering I3 is also short enough so that it will not interfere with the thumb when not in use. The reinforcing layer is also adapted to extend over the inner surface of the linger covering I3 so that; it, as well as the palm of the glove, will stand excessive wear.

Another important improvement in this type of glove is that the covering I3 may be pushed into the interior of the glove as shown in Fig. 4 and thus be positioned entirely out of the way of the wearer when it is not in use.

It will be seen from the foregoing that a very simple and inexpensive glove has been provided which possesses unusual advantages in the field for which it has been developed. It is thought, thereforei that the foregoing' description, taken in connection fwith the accompanying drawing, will clearly illustrate the details of construction and mode of operation of the invention without any further extended description.

Having thus described the invention, what s claimed as new and desired to Secund hr1-@tiers- Patent is:

1. A glove, comprising la baclrportionf a Y and thumb portion joined thereto, a reirgiqrcing layer secured to said palm portion and said thumb portion and an inverted;

finger covering having the lower or open end thereof secured to the upper or outer edge of said palm portion, said finger covering being of such a length that the upper or closed end will fall short of the crotch formed by the palm portion and said thumb portion, said finger covering thereby being adapted to lie in a flattened position and having the outer or closed end retained in said palm portion by' said thumb portion.

2. A glove, comprising a back portion, a palm superimposed lower or open end of said palm portion, the usual a reinforcing layer adapted to cover the palm portionarid the inner faces of the superimposed finger covering and thumb portion,
