THOMAS W. KIMBELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,509, dated September 21, 1880.
Application filed April 12, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. KIMBELL, a resident of New York, in the county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new, useful, and important Improvement in DoorLocks, described in this` specification.
My invention consists in an improvement upon that class of locks which are unlocked from the outside with a key, from the inside by a handle, are locked when the door is closed, and are arranged to draw the bolts at the `bottom and top of the door when being unlocked.
Figure l is a perspective view of the lock and bolts on the inner side of a door. Fig. 2 is a rear View of the same, with the bolt partly drawn. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same.
In the form of lock shown, A is the case. B is a bolt. C is a device to draw the bolt, which has a cam, Fto turn in a recess in the bolt to draw it, a key-receptacle, d, a handle, E, and ears g g, for the attachment of the chains 1L l1., by which the spring-bolts H I are operated. K is a spring for retracting the bolt after it is drawn.
The case has a slot, l, for a button, m, to fasten the device C when the door-bolts are drawn and hold them back. The bolt has a stud, n, to move in a groove, o, on the back plate, F, to center the bolt. y i Changes in the details of construction and operation maybe made within the scope of my (Model. l
'claim- 1. The combination of case A, having slot l and groove o, bolt B, having stud n, device O, having cam F and key-receptacle d., handle E, and ears g g, chains h h, bolts H I, spring K, and button on, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of case A, having groove o, bolt B, having stud n, device C, having cam F, key-receptacle d, handle E, and ears g g, chains h h, bolts H I, and spring K, substantially as set forth.
3. rllhe combination of a latch-case having a guide for the bolt, a bolt having a stud and a retracting-spring, a device having a key-receptacle on one side, a handle on the other, a cam to move the bolt, and ears to connect bolts for the top and bottom of a door, substantially as described.`
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my signature, in the presence of two attesting witnesses, on the 10th day of March, 1880.
THOMAS W. KIMBELL.
