Description

P. W. MIX.
TRUNK LOOK.
(No Model.)
No. 262,812. Patented Aug. 15, 1882..
INVENTOR i ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK W. MIX, OF TERRYVILLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE EAGLELOCK COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
TRUNK-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,812, dated August 15, 1882,
Application filed April 7, 188:2.
To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, FRANK WV. MIX, of 'lerryville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement'in Trunk-Locks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My improvements relate to pivoted hasploeks, and have the objects to construct such looks so that they shall withstand the excessive strain to which they are subjected, and, further, to allow of ready adjustment of the locks to the trunks.
The invention consists in a hinged hasp formed on its moving end to engage with or enter thelocking-ring and locked with aturning button, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face View of the improved trunk-lock. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same in the open position. Fig. 3 is aface view of the lock-ring. Fig. 4 is an end view of the plug. Fig. 5 shows the turning button. Fig. 6 is a rear view of the hasp.
A is the hinged hasp, attached by a bolt, (1, on the front of the trunk, (represented at B.) C is the lock-case, formed with or attached to a ring, D, and secured to the cover E of the (No model.)
trunk, and F is the turning plug of the lock. The hasp A is formed at its free end with a key-aperture, a, and with lugs b b on its back side, at opposite sides of the aperture, that pass through ring D at the sides of lockcase 0 when the hasp is closed. The lugs I) are grooved at b in the sides next the lockcase, and on the turning plugF is a button, a, for entering the grooves I), and thus retaining the hasp closed. By this engagement of the lugs 11 with the lock-ring D the hasp is supported against lateral pressure or strain by the ring, and the lock-case relieved of such strain. At the same time, there being space between the case and the lugs, the ring may turn slightly on the lugs in adjusting the lock on the trunk, and, further, lateral movement of the trunk-cover to a certain extent is allowed for, the hasp in thatcaseswingingon the bolt d.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the lock-case C, the ring D, and the turning plug F, provided with the button 0, of the hinged hasp A, provided with the lugs b, having grooves b, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
FRANK W. MIX. Witnesses:
