1 Claim.

This invention relates to the ofcial class of clothing and garments and more particularly a sleeping bag.

The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a sleeping bag for babies adapted to provide adequate cover for them which cannot be accidently removed and yet permit the maximum freedom of movement of his body and limbs.

Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a substantially rectangular shape sleeping bag having arms whose lateral movement is unrestricted.

A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a sleeping bag having arms foldable from the tops of the shoulders either forwardly or backwardly and swingable in all directions.

A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of means whereby the arms of the sleeping bag will be fastened at the wrists for unrestrained movement.

With these and other objects in View this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specication, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim and, while this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction and arrangement of elements as come within the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application;

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the sleeping bag showing the arms in full lines when the bag is occupied and dotted lines prior thereto.

Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the front and back members.

In the present illustration of this invention the numeral 5 designates, in general, a sleeping bag which, while herein recited as being used for babies, may be employed for larger children or even grown individuals to provide maximum comfort and unrestrained movement of their body and limbs.

The present sleeping bag is preferably constructed from any suitable soft and warm material sewed together in the usual manner and consists of front and back members 6 and 'I of substantially rectangular configuration having the medial portions of one end cut out as indicated by the numeral 8 to form arm members 9 and a neck band I0 therebetween, said front member being slit as indicated by the numeral I I to permit placing of a baby within the bag.

With the front and back members cut out as aforesaid they are sewed along their side and bottom edges to the outer extremities or wrist Vopenings I2 of the arms subsequent to which the inner edges of the arms are sewed from the neck band to their outer extremities or wrist openings. Subsequent to the above operation the neck band is completed in any approved manner and is held closed either by a zipper fastener I3 attached to the sides of the slit in the usual manner or by any desired fastening means deemed appropriate.

The outer extremities of the arms or Wrist portions are gathered or otherwise sized and provided with suitable fastening elements I4 to permit the same to be comfortably secured around the wrists of a baby. In order to permit access to the sleeping bag from the bottom thereof, the lower abutting edges of the material are unsewed and provided with a zipper fastener I5 are suitable element capable of a similar function.

Although the sleeping bag is herein disclosed as being constructed from separate front and back members sewed together as heretofore mentioned, it is within the purview of this invention to make the same from one or more pieces of material without departing from the salient feature of associating the arms with the body portion so lateral movement thereof relative to the sides of the body portion will be unrestricted.

With this invention fully set forth it is manifest that a sleeping bag is provided which will comfortably enclose a baby therein and permit freedom of movement of its body and limbs and, through the simplicity of construction thereof, it can be manufactured and marketed at no greater expense than conventional sleeping garments.

Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A sleeping bag comprising a body portion having a neck opening and slit therein, freely swingable` arms extending from the upper extremity of the body portion with their outer side edges disposed in alignment with the outer side edges of the body portion and their inner side edges diverging from the neck opening and fastening means yassociated with the arms, slit and neck opening.
