This invention relates to a combination sleeping bag and hood for infants.

It is an object of my invention to provide a combination sleeping bag or robe and com plemental hood therefor which may be used separately or in combination, and to provide connecting means between the hood and the robe to provide a garment which provides maximum freedom and comfort to the infant when wearing a garment so assembled. It is contemplated by my invention to provide a combination sleeping robe and hood particularly useful for infants, in which each element may be separately and independently used as an article of apparel and in whichv the robe may serve to envelope the body of the infant, as well as the hood worn by the infant, so that the hood and robe are accommodated to the length of the body of the infant and relative adjustment may be made between the two portions of the garment assembled in accordance with the length of the infant.

It is further contemplated by my invention to'provide a combination robe in the nature of a sleeping garment having an assembled hood, in which the hood and robe are connected to each other to accommodate these two portions to' the length of the, infant to obtain maximum comfort and so connecting the hood and robe to each other that facile and ready adjustment of these two garments may be made to accommodate the two portions forming the assembled garment to the length of the infant and'to provide automatic adjustment of the same for various positions which may be assumed by the infant wearin the garment. 4

Further objects of my invention reside in the provision of a combination robe or sleeping bag and hood in which the parts may be separably connected and when in use, provide maximum comfort, permitting accommodation of the garment to the wearer thereof by slidably connecting the hood and the sleeping robe to each other.

To attain these objects and such further objects as may appear herein or be hereinafter pointed out, I make reference to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my combination robe and hpod, with the hood open.

Making reference to the drawing, my garment comprises essentially a sleeping robe 10, made of fabric suitable for this purpose, and cut. to provide a closed bottom 11 and an open top 12, and having a longitudinal slit 13 extending substantially for the full length of the sleeping robe, thus providing co-terminus edges 14 and 15. These edges may be provided with complemental, interlocking slide fastener elements 10, operated by a slider 17. Additional adjustable fastening elements, such as ribbons 18, may be provided near the upper edge of the sleeping robe. This assembly may be substantially of the character shown and described in the patent to Bloom 1,811,821., granted June 23, 1931.

For use with the garment as described, there is provided a hood or cap 19, preferably including a short shoulder cape 20, the ends whereof 21 are arranged to be connected to each other by separable fastener elements 22, such as buttons, hooks and eyes, snap fasteners, and the like. I

The size and shape'of the hood and cape as provided permits the same to be retained within the sleeping robe or bag so that the infant wearing the same may have the hood and cape independently adjusted and when so dressed, may be disposed within the sleeping bag, to drape the sleeping bag over the entire body and to cover a substantial part thereof including the shoulders and the cape Worn t ereon. This separable arrangement of the hood and cape and the bag, and making the hood and cape of smaller dimensions than the sleeping robe, will permit any adjustment of the wearer within the robe, to obtain complete coverage.

Where it is desired to avoid accidental creeping and separation of the two portions of the garment, especially when worn by an infant, I provide connecting means between the hood and the robe for this purpose interiorly of the sleeping robe, and adjacent the back wall 23, I provide a series of stringers or ribbons.24, fastened merely at their ends 25, to the fabric of the robe at the rear wall thereof, adjacent the shoulder or back contacting portion. To reinforce the attachment of the stringers or ribbons 24 tapes 26 are additionally sewn over the ends 25. These stringers or ribbons 24 are' provided with slides 27.' Slidable connection is permitted by passing the ribbons through the loops 28 formed in said slides. the slides, there are provided the female portions 29 of snap fastener elements. Attached to the assembly comprising the hood, preferably near the edge 30 of the shoulder cape 20, I provide a plurality of male portions 31 of snap fastener elements. These are located in positions corresponding to the slides 27 and the complemental portion of the snap fastener elements 29, carried thereby.

With the parts provided as described, to dress an infant in the sleeping garment or robe, the parts comprising the hood and robe may be first assembled andthe infant disposed therein, making adjustment of the hood to accommodate the infant as will be readily understood, or the hood and cape is first adjusted over the infant and the infant may then be bodily disposed within the sleeping bag, positioning the infant low as possible within the bag as described, to assure completely covering the infant. The snap fastener elements 29 and 31, respectively, may then be connected, whereupon the sleeping garment may be closed, by drawing the slider upwardly, and interconnecting the slide fastener elements and further also tying the ribbon fasteners 18 as desired.

It will be observed that from the construction as provided, the hood and sleeping robe are interconnected with each other to assure against displacement of these parts from each other and at the same time, adjustment to accommodate the parts to the length of the infant, may quickly and conveniently be made. the infant sit up, the two separate portions of the garment will be retained to fully protect the infant in this position, and further, full comfort is provided in that the hood and robe automatically slidably adjust themselves to the new position assumed, and permit sufficient displacement to avoid binding the garment uncomfortably about the infant.

It will further be observed that by retaining the hood and cape within the ag any tendency for the infant to creep upwardly or downwardly will serve to permit accomodation of this change in position without discomfort in-drawing the hood worn by the infant with it, but this assembly will also prevent the infant from creeping entirely out of the robe. Thus the connection not only per- "'mits adjustment of the parts in accordance with the length of the wearer but adds to its comfort.

Having thus described my invention and illustrated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a garment of the character described including a sleeping robe having a portion adapted to form a bottom closure and a separable hood therefor adapted to be retained within said robe and be enveloped by the same, complemental fastening means between said hood and robe having slidable adjustable connection between said hood and robe.

2. In a garment of the character described comprising a separately formed robe and a hood including a shoulder cape, means for retaining said hood and cape within said robe whereby portions of said robe may. be enveloped over said hood and about the same, means for slidably attaching said hood to said robe comprising complemental separable fastener portions carried by said hood and robe respectively, one of which portions includes' a slidable element and means for mounting said slidable element, attached to said robe.

3. In a garment of the character described comprising a hood and cape assembly, a robe. or sleeping bag for the same, said assembly being adapted to be retained in said robe or bag, separable fastening means between said robe or bag and said assembly, including slidable connection therebetween.

4. In a garment of the character described comprising a sleeping robe or bag, a. hood and cape assembly arranged to be retained within said robe or bag, means for holdin said assembly in separable and slidable a justment with said robe or bag comprising stringers or ribbons affixed to the rear portion of said robe- E or bag by their ends, sliders disposed on said stringers or ribbons carrying fastener elements, cooperating fastener elements on. said- JOSEPH ASTROVE.
