Description

(ModeL) D. M. CHURCH.
Paper Strips from which to Manufacture Paper Bobbins. No. 231,536. Patented Aug. 24,1880.
lTNE S SES INVENTOB QQKM sQC I N-FETERS, FNOTO-LITKOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, DC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DWIGHT M. CHURCH, OF DERBY, CONNECTICUT.
PAPER STRIP FROM WHICH TO MANUFACTURE PAPER BOBBINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,536, dated August 24, 1880. Application filed March 3, 1880. (Modei.)
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, DWIGHT of Derby, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Paper Strip from which to Manufacture Paper Bobbins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a View, in perspective, of the paper strip, and Fig. 2 is a view of a bobbin formed from the same.
The invention relates to the manufacture of paper bobbins; and it consists of a paper strip of novel construction and form, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
I produce from paper-pulp a long strip having continuous ribs along its sides. The inner faces of these ribs are beveled, so that when the strip is made up into bobbins the bobbin will have the usual circumferential flanges at the ends. This strip is preferably wound on a reel convenient for use in the manufacture of bobbins, and may be fed out and cut off in proper lengths for making the bobbins by any M. CHURCH,
suitable mechanism, and wound or bentaround a spindle until the edges of the cut length meet, and then wound with thread to prevent said edges from separating.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A designates the strip made from paper-pulp, having the continuous ribs to a along its edges made integral therewith and beveled on their inner faces, as at B.
[make no claim herein to the process of making the bobbins from the strip, nor to any mechanism by which the process is applied.
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As a new article of manufacture, the herein-described paper strip made from paper-pulp and provided with the continuous ribs a a along its edges, made integral therewith and 45 beveled on their inner faces, as at B, for making paper bobbins, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DWIGHT MADISON CHURCH.
