UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLIVER S. OSBORN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO ENGLISH & MERSICK, OF SAME PLACE.
CARRlAGE-CURTAlN-ROLLER SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,237, dated August 17, 1880.
Application filed April 17, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER S. ()sBoRN, of the town and county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carriage-Curtain-Roller Supports; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention is intended to supply an auxiliary support for securely holding the curtainroller of open-top carriages or landaus when, by reason of dropping the top, the main support is removed, and for which purpose strings or tapes are commonly used.
Figure 1 is a side view of my invention, showing the arm a raised and supporting the end of a curtain-roller, A, and together with a hollow base, b, having upper sides projecting so as to allow of the pivoting thereto of the arm a. Fig. 2 is a top view, showing the arm a closed down and out of way when not in use. Fig. 3 is a bottom view, showing a flat strip of spring-steel, c, which is held in position by lugs d d, and which, by pressing against the inside edge of the arm a, holds it firmly in any desired position. Fig. 4. shows,
in full lines, the roller in position when the top of the carriage is up, and in dotted lines the position of the same when said top is dropped and the end of the roller is held by my support.
The support may be secured in any conven ient place by means of screws, for which purpose the necessary holes are left in the base.
I use in connection with this device a rubber bushing, 6, around the hole of the arm a, to prevent any rattling noise from contact of the parts.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A carriage-curtain-roller support, consisting of a base, I), an arm, a, and spring 0, when constructed and used in the manner and for the purposes specified.
2. The combination of the base 1), arm a, spring 0, and rubber bushing e, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of March, 1880.
OLIVER S. OSBORN. Witnesses:
FRANCIS F. PBEUDHOMME, WM. BRYAN.
