EDGAR W. ANTHONY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO SMITH 8t ANTHONY STOVE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,851, dated August 10, 1880.
Application filed March 29, 1880.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR W. ANTHONY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Commonwealt-h of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the following-described cloth and towel drying support or rack, attached to the top plate or side of a stove or range.
Reference is had to theaccompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification in explaining the nature of my invention, in which- Figure I is a perspective of a portion of a stove or range provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is also a perspective of a part of a stove or ran ge, representing the cloth-dryin g support in a different position in relation thereto. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the upper part of the support and device for holding the arms. Fig. at is a view, part in section and part in elevation, of said upper portion, with one of the arms in place.
Cloth or towel drying supports of various kinds attached to stoves are common, and among them may be mentioned the device described in Patent Reissue No. 8,137, granted Robert Simpson, assignor to the Highland Foundry Company; but so far as I am aware there is no device which has the characteris tics of my invention.
My invention comprises a standard, A, for carrying the head supporting the towel-drawing supports, and it is provided with the bolt (1, by which it is fastened, in connection with the nut a, to the top plate, B, of the stove, or to the bracket 0, projecting therefrom. This standard supports a head, 1), which may or may not revolve upon the standard, and which is provided with the holes (I, into which are set the cloth-drying supports or arms E.
The head should be so shaped and the holes therein should be so formed that the upper and lower edges thereof shall act to properly support the end of the arms E.
The arms are provided with grooves OI (No model.)
notches c, which are of sufficient width to close over the projection (1. upon insertion.
As many arms or supports maybe employed 0 as desired.
\Vhen the arms are not in usethey may be turned upwardly out of the vay, as shown in Fig. 1, in which case thcir'inuerends will abut against the projection (1 upon the standard. 5
The head I) is secured to the standard by means of a bolt and nut, or in any other desirable way.
The advantages of this invention are apparent.
I am aware that a standard having arms for the purpose of holding cloths for drying has been used; but I am notaware that such supports were so arranged in relation to heat-giving mediums that a portion of the cloths could be dried more quickly than another portion. Therefore I do not consider that the same embodies the spirit of my invention, which is the combination of a stove with a standard carrying a head provided with arms for supporting the cloths, the said arms being arranged to revolve upon the standard in such a way that cloths may be dried more or less quickly by being moved to or from the stove, as herein set forth.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In combination with a stove, the standard A, the bolt a and nut a for fastening said standard to the top plate, B, or the bracket O, the head D, and removable arms E, all adapted for use substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. ,In combination with the standard A,provided with the projection (1 the head D, adapted to hold and support one or more arms, E, in substantially a vertical position when not in use, substantially as and for the purposes described.
EDGAR W. ANTHONY. Vitnesses:
I F. RAYMOND, 2d, M. W. SAWYER.
