Wis., a corporation of Wisconsin Application August 28, 1940, Serial No. 354,591
Claims.
My invention relates to an improvement in gyratory crushers and has for one purpose the provision of an improved actuating and supporting means for the head of a gyratory crusher.
Another purpose is the provision of a gyratory crusher having a head free from the unitary depending shaft employed prevailingly in previous gyratory crushers and shown, for example, in Patent No. 1,537,565, issued to Edgar B.
Symons on May 12, 1925, and reissued on February 16, 1934, as No. 19,154.
Another purpose is the provision of improved supporting means for a gyratory crusher head suitable connecting member 22, communicating with the 011 line 23, extending from any suitable pump or source of lubricant. A ledge 24 con- ,nects the sleeves II and I3, and is provided with supporting means or rings 25, asshown in Fig. 1. The upper edge of the sleeve ll terminates in an enlargement 26, preferably having an up- ;wardly and inwardly inclined surface 21, and an inner generally cylindrical surface 28, which may be provided with channels 29 to receive sealing rings 30.
Rotatable about the member I3 is an eccentrically apertured sleeve 3|, having an inner cylinin which the head is supported and centered by an upstanding portion of the main frame.
Another purpose is the provision of improved oil sealing means for protecting the bearings of the actuating portion of the crusher.
Other purposes will appear from time to time in the course of the specification and claims.
I illustrate my invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a vertical axial section; and
Fig. 2 is asection on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Like parts are indicated by like symbols throughout the specification and drawings;
Referring to the drawings, l indicates any suitable base or foundation, upon which is positioned a circumferentially extending main frame 5 2, which may for example have a bottom flange 3, resting upon the base I, and secured to it by any suitable means. The circumferential flange 2 is broken away to provide for an outwardly extending generally cylindrical sleeve 4, the pur- I pose of which will later appear. The flange 2 terminates at its upper edge in an outwardly extending flange 5, having a top face 6, generally horizontal, and an outer generally vertical face 1, an outer inclined face 8, and an inner inclined face 9.
Connected to the main frame by any suitable radial ribs or frame member [0 is a central sleeve ll, one part of which is flattened or plate l5 and may receive at its bottom end any 1 The member I3 is hollow, as at I1, and
drical bearing 32 and an outer cylindrical bearing 33. The axes of these two bearings are inclined in relation to each other. At the bottom of the sleeve 3| is a gear 34, which may be keyed or otherwise secured thereto, and is in mesh with the pinion 35 on the drive shaft 36 in the bearing sleeve 31, having a hearing or bearings 38, located in the sleeve 4 in the main frame. The
Mounted for sliding movement on the top bearing plate 16 is a crusher head supporting plate 4|, having a bottom plane surface 42, conforming to the upper surface of the plate l6, and a top spherical concave bearing surface 43, the sphere of which is described about the center A, located above the crushing cavity. The center A is located by the intersection of the axes A-B and A-C. A--B is the central axis of the outer periphery of the fixed upstanding cylindrical member l3 and A-C is the central'axis of the outer periphery of the eccentrically apertured sleeve 3|. The plate 4| is provided with an oil passing aperture 44, generally aligned with the oil passages 20 and 2|. It will be understood that the relative movement of the members 4| and I6 is slight, but a perceptible amount of lateral movement is advantageous.
generally indicates a crushing head having 2 posed between the outer surface ofthe lower portion of the sleeve 53 and the flange 25 is a sealing ring 55, which may be secured to the gear 34 as by any suitable bolt or bolts 55, and rotates in unison with the gear 34. The sealing ring 55 has an inner enlargement 51, with an upward conic extension 58, extending beneath the shield 54. The body portion 51 is provided with channels 59 to receive sealing rings 60, which seal between the ring portion 5! and the exterior of the lower portion of the sleeve 53 of the head. The ring 55 also has an outer cylindrical portion 8| opposed to the sealing rings 30 on the frame flange 28, and an outer apron 52, which extends downwardly about the conic surface 21 of the flange 25. Thus the ring is eifective as a sealing connection between the frame portion-ll,
and the head sleeve 53, and the overhanging aprons 54 and 62 are an additional protection against the penetration of dust into the bearings. The lower edge of the head may also be provided with a downwardly extending protecting apron 65, which is a further protection against dust.
The head is shown as provided with an upwardly extending sleeve 6'6, screw threaded at the top, as at 51, to receive any suitable locking nut 58, which exerts a downward thrust on a conic compression member 59, the lower edge of which engages the upper edge of any suitable conic crushing mantle 10, which rests on the outer conic surface of the head 52.
II indicates any suitable packing of zinc or the like. 73 is any suitable feed restricting or feed distributing plate, mounted above the nut 58. Since the details ofthe feed plate and its connection to the head do not of themselves form part of the present invention, they are not described or shown.
Mounted upon the flange 5 is a ring 80, having a downward circumferential channel 9|, defined by surfaces corresponding to the surfaces of the flange 5. Any particular upwardly converging conic surfaces 82 and 821.! are provided, which engage the corresponding surfaces 8 and 9 of the flange 5. The ring 80 is normally held clamped downwardly against the flange 5 by any suitable means, including for example tension'members or bolts 33, having at their lower ends an abutment ring 84. A plurality of coil springs 85 serve to thrust the ring 84- dow'nwardly, the coil springs being compressed between the ring 84 and the lower face of the flange 5. They are purposely so set that when uncrushable material, tramp iron or the like, passes through the crushing cavity, the ring may lift slightly. The ring 80 carries a screw threaded annular portion 35, which receives in screw threaded relation the bowl structure, including an outer cylindrical portion 37, to which is secured, or with which is integrally formed, an inner'conic bowl 833, which receives the crushing bowl liner 89, which may be secured in position for example by hook-shaped lugs 99, which extend through apertures 91 in the bowl 83, and are held by U-bolts 92, located in the space between the bowl portions 81 and 38.
The top of the bowl portion may be closed by any suitable upwardly and outwardly conic shield 93, which may be provided with wear plates 94. is an additional exterior shield, and 96 a; generally cylindrical feed directing member. It will beunderstood that the bowl structure in general may be adjusted as to height in relation to the ring by imparting relative rotation to the members 81 and 95. However, since the details of this adjustment do not of themselves form part of the present invention, they will not be herein described.
It will be understood that oil may be delivered in any suitable manner along the line 23 and upwardly along the line 20 to the bearings 42 and 43, whence it may pass outwardly and lubrica'te the bearings 32 and 33. Oil may also pass by thepassage 91 to the bearing 39. i
It will be realized that, whereas I have describedand illustrated a practical and operative device, nevertheless many changes may be made in the size, shape, number and disposition of parts without departing from the spirit or my invention. I therefore wish my description and drawings to be taken as in a broad sense illustrative or diagrammatic, rather than as limiting me to my precise showingl The use and operation of my invention are as follows:
The mantle Hi and the liner 89 define a crushing cavity, into which material is delivered from above, and where it is crushed by the gyration of about the center A, in which the zone or point of approach of the head to the bowl passes circumferentially about the crushing cavity in regular sequence.
The head is gyrated in response to the rotation of the eccentrically apertured sleeve 3|. Since the movement of the head is circular and not a movement of translation, the axes of the bearings 32 and 33 are inclined in relation to each other.
A rotation of the shaft 38 by any suitable motive means causes a unitary rotation of the gear 34 and the eccentrically apertured sleeve 3!. The thick side of the sleeve 3! is thereby moved circumferentially about the central fixed frame members l3, and the result is the desired gyration of the head and its consequent crushing action.
The sealing member 55 moves in unison with the gear 34, and the thin side of the sealing ring 55 is thereby always aligned with the thick side of the sleeve 3i.
The downwardly extending sleeve 53 of the head receives the thrust of the exterior bearing 33 of the eccentrically apertured sleeve 3|. The sealing ring is effective to seal both against the exterior of the sleeve 53 and the interior of the flange 26, thus providing an effective seal against the penetration of dust or grit into the bearings. The overhanging aprons 54 and 92 are further advantageous in preventing the access of dust to the bearings.
